Your tour begins at Auschwitz I; known as a stammlager in Germany, this was the former main camp and the administrative headquarters of the camp complex. See the numerous photographs and belongings of the prisoners, along with the spot where Rudolf Hess, the camp's longest-serving commander, was executed as a war criminal in 1947.

As you will be visiting a former extermination camp, you are expected to suit your clothing and behavior to reflect the solemnness of the site.
