Tickets include the half‑day cruise from Strahan, reserved seating in your chosen section (main deck or upper deck), live or recorded commentary, a guided rainforest boardwalk, a guided Sarah Island visit, and an onboard meal (lunch or dinner depending on departure). Drinks and seat upgrades depend on the ticket type you choose.

A main meal is included (buffet or plated, depending on deck), with tea/coffee and water available. Upper deck tickets typically add upgraded catering and some complimentary drinks. Outside alcohol is not allowed, and bringing a full picnic isn’t necessary. Pack small snacks only if you have specific dietary needs.

Cruises depart from wharves along The Esplanade in central Strahan. Most accommodation is within a 5–15 minute walk. If you’re driving, public parking is available near the wharf; arrive early in summer to find a space. There’s no reliable public transport timed specifically to cruise departures.

Advance booking is strongly recommended, especially December–March and for upper deck or window seats, which sell out first. Main decks on modern vessels generally have ramped access and level indoor seating, but upper decks may require stairs. The Heritage Landing boardwalk is short and mostly level but can be slippery, while Sarah Island has uneven ground and steps. If mobility is a concern, confirm details with the operator and consider staying onboard at more challenging stops.

Families regularly take children on these cruises. Lightweight strollers can usually be brought on board and stored near your seat; they may be awkward on narrow gangways or Sarah Island’s uneven paths. The 5–6 hour duration can be long for toddlers, so bring quiet activities and be prepared for short walks on deck breaks.

Photography is welcome throughout. You can shoot from your seat through large windows, but for the best results use outer decks to avoid reflections, especially on the Gordon River and at Hells Gates. You won’t need a tripod; the boat is moving and space can be limited, so handheld cameras and phones work best.

Dress in layers and bring a waterproof jacket; Tasmania’s west coast can be cold, windy, or rainy even in summer. Comfortable, non‑slip shoes are important for wet decks and boardwalks. Pack sunscreen, a hat, any seasickness medication you need, and a small daypack—large suitcases or eskies aren’t practical on board.

Tipping is not mandatory in Australia, and staff are paid wages rather than relying on tips. Some passengers choose to leave a gratuity or positive feedback if they feel the crew and guides went above expectations, but it’s entirely optional and not built into the experience.

The rainforest boardwalk at Heritage Landing is an easy 20–30 minute loop on timber paths, though surfaces can be damp. The Sarah Island tour involves around 45–60 minutes of gentle walking and standing on uneven ground. Guests can opt out and stay aboard if they prefer less walking.

Both cover the same route and guided stops; the main differences are departure time and meal. The morning cruise includes lunch on board and finishes mid‑afternoon. The seasonal afternoon cruise replaces lunch with dinner and returns around sunset, offering different light rather than extra locations.
