Pro tips to help you make a pick

Prebook if the cable car is a must-do on a fixed date, because same-day purchase is subject to availability and busy mornings can push the first available ascent to a later slot.

Do not assume prebooking removes all waiting. It mainly helps with uphill slot certainty, while physical boarding lines and the untimed return queue still remain.

Choose a standard timed round-trip ticket if you want the option of riding back down the same day; the descent is included, but the return time is not reserved.

Pick a one-way ascent ticket only when you genuinely plan to descend on foot or use El Cable as the start of a longer hiking route.

If you go up without a return ticket and later decide not to walk down, a descent-only ticket can be bought at the upper station.

Seniors 65+ and large-family discounts require ticket-office purchase with proof rather than the normal general online purchase flow.

Factor mountain conditions into your booking choice: weather and maintenance closures do occur, and general conditions indicate no refunds in normal cases.

About Fuente De Cable Car

Some cable cars are about the ride. Fuente Dé is about where it drops you. Within minutes you're standing at El Cable with the Picos de Europa all around, deciding between a long look at the view, a café stop, an easy wander, or a longer trek toward Áliva. Few mountain stops manage to be a lazy morning and a serious hiking day at once, and this one pulls it off.

Did you know?

No pillars, no pit stops. Fuente Dé is described as the longest single-span aerial lift in Europe, so your cabin glides the whole way without a single intermediate stop.

A short ride with a long cable. In just 3 minutes and 40 seconds, you cover about 1,450 meters of cable and gain 753 meters of elevation. That's a hefty chunk of mountain for less time than it takes to microwave a plate of leftovers.

Faster than it feels. The cabins travel at 10 meters per second, which is roughly 36 km/h. The huge mountain cirque tricks your senses, and you only notice the real speed when the other cabin zips past you.

Two cabins, one perfectly timed seesaw. There are two cabins, each holding 20 people, running up and down at the same time. As one heads for the summit, the other heads for the valley, and they wave hello in the middle.

A 1960s original that never went out of style. Built in 1966, deep within what is now Picos de Europa National Park, the cable car has been running for more than half a century and is considered a symbol of the Picos.

Why visit Fuente De Cable Car?

Reach El Cable in less than four minutes

The cable car saves 753 meters of climbing in less than four minutes between Fuente Dé and the El Cable upper station. Its main appeal is not the ride length alone, but how quickly it places visitors in high-mountain terrain.

Get immediate high-mountain views after arrival

The panorama begins almost as soon as visitors reach the upper station. The shift from the narrow valley base to the exposed upper landscape is part of the experience, even for travelers who do not plan a long walk.

Choose between a short scenic stop and a real hiking start

Some visitors ride up for a viewpoint stop, a café pause, and a short wander near El Cable, while others use the upper station as a trailhead for longer mountain routes. That flexibility makes the cable car useful for different visit styles on the same route.

Spend time at the top instead of treating it as a simple up-and-down ride

The upper area supports more than a quick photo stop. Visitors can pause at the café, walk around the station area, and decide whether conditions suit a longer outing before heading back down.
