The Scoth Whisky Experience was our first stop of the day and it was incredible! The tour was fun and informative, our guide Victoria was a delight, and the final stop (not gonna spoil it in a review) was a CAN NOT MISS! 100% recommend! I will say the meeting location listed in the app was incorrect and you meet inside the building not out front. The Edinburgh Dungeon was a wild time! I went to this attraction 20 years ago and it has completely changed from what it was back in the day and because I didn't look into it and expected it to just be the same two decades later, I inadvertently took my best friend to a scare experience (and she is not a fan of scare experiences) but thankfully she did enjoy herself (which is why I am able to write this today!) And I had a blast! The scare actors were incredibly talented and the scares were absolutely earned! And we both appreciated that there was no touching. That's always a point of contention here in the states with grabbing. 100% worth doing if you like history and scares!

Absolutely — I’d keep it genuinely enthusiastic but centre it on Bertie’s experience, since that’s the bit that was genuinely five-star for you. We visited the Edinburgh Dungeon for my son’s 9th birthday, and it was easily one of the highlights of our trip to Edinburgh – he absolutely loved it! The actors were brilliant throughout and really threw themselves into their roles. There was a great balance of humour and scares: funny enough that we were laughing a lot, but with just the right amount of creepiness and jumpy moments for a nine-year-old who enjoys being scared! We also really liked the way the experience moves you from room to room, with each one telling a different part of Edinburgh’s darker history. It felt much more immersive than simply walking around an attraction, and the interaction with the actors made it especially memorable. A really fun, theatrical experience and a fantastic birthday treat. My son was still talking about it afterwards, which probably says it all!

We were a group of seven made up of family and friends some from overseas. Two of our group were "selected" during the tour which added to the hilarity. The whole experience was excellent and we will certainly be back next year.

Highlights started at the beginning when we entered the staff were so helpful to my grandson and I. We had a super scary experience with actors and actresses serving up all kinds of wonderful moments of the past . But be aware guys super frightening also.. The whole experience was so good we will definitely be back for more.. Kind regards Papa Jim and grandson Blair ❤️

A great show. The actors were brilliant and really exposed Edinburgh's dark side. Sets were authentic , capturing the sights, sounds, atmosphere and smells of the time. Both entertaining and scary.

Great service, arrived early into Edinburgh and as it was raining asked if we could go into dungeon early, no issues and booking changed

Great time had at this attraction. Well worth the visit and a good price too. The actors were realistic and played good parts.

What to expect

The Edinburgh Dungeon brings Scotland’s grimmer moments to life with live actors, interactive scenes, and dramatic effects. It’s weird, wild, and a surprisingly fun way to meet the city’s most infamous characters.

Live actor shows: Watch creepy performances that bring history to life. Meet Burke and Hare in their body-snatching scheme, face the Plague Doctor’s bizarre cures, survive Sawney Bean’s cannibal clan, and get judged for 17th-century crimes!

Themed sets and special effects: Wander through moody, detailed spaces filled with eerie lighting, creepy sound effects, and immersive storytelling.

Age recommendation: Best for ages 8 and up—spooky enough to thrill older kids, fun enough for grown-ups, and great for families and groups.

What's not allowed

Sharp metallic tools or objects, drones, alcohol, smoke bombs, fireworks, glass bottles, illegal substances, rollerblades, skateboards, scooters, and large bags are not allowed on this experience.
