From Cusco: Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley Guided Tour with Meals

What to bring

• Voucher & ID: Carry a digital or printed voucher along with a government-issued ID on the day of the tour.

• Cash: Carry adequate cash, preferably in smaller denominations, to pay for the entry tickets, horse rentals, and to purchase water and snacks.

• Warm clothing: Carry or wear thermal layers such as a windproof waterproof jacket, gloves, hat, and trekking pants.

• Footwear: Wear grippy trekking shoes or boots; avoid shoes with smooth soles.

• Sun protection: Bring high-SPF sunscreen, UV sunglasses, and a cap or hat.

• Water: Carry at least 1 liter of water, along with rehydrating drinks if necessary.

• Snacks: Pack chocolate, cereal bars, nuts, or dried fruits for energy.

• Small backpack: Carry a small daypack to carry all your essentials during the tour and hike.

• Drones without permission: Do not fly drones without prior approval from local communities.

Accessibility

• Accessibility restrictions: This tour is not suited for guests with limited mobility, heart problems, wheelchair users, pregnant women, epilepsy, and hypertension.

• Age restrictions: This tour isn't recommended for guests over 70 years of age.

Additional information

• Acclimatization: Stay in Cusco at least 1 day before to help your body adjust to high altitude.

• Altitude: Rainbow Mountain is over 5,000 meters above sea level, so altitude sickness is possible.

• Rest before tour: Sleep early the night before, as pickup or meeting time is between 4 and 5am.

• Food before tour: Avoid alcohol and heavy or spicy food the night before to stay comfortable at the higher altitudes.

• Guide instructions: Follow your guide's pace and advice, and stay with the group at all times.

• Walking pace: Walk at a steady, slow pace, breathe deeply, and take short breaks when needed.

• Horse option: You can hire a horse on the trail if needed, paid directly to local residents.

• Trash: Keep your rubbish with you and dispose of it whenever you find access to a dustbin.

• Season and weather: Expect very cold mornings, strong sun, and wind; dry season offers clearer views.

• Red Valley access: Entry to the Red Valley viewpoint is optional and decided during the tour.

• Toilets on route: Some restroom stops on the way charge a small local fee.
