One of my favorite parts was visiting the carving workshop where artisans were actually working on the sculptures in front of us. Watching these skilled craftsmen create such detailed artwork by hand gave us an entirely new appreciation for the monument. Visitors are even offered a chance to participate in a carving activity at the end of the tour. A few tips for future visitors: • If booking online, purchase your ticket at least an hour before arrival as there is usually a waiting period before it becomes valid. • Check the guide timings in advance so you can plan your visit smoothly. • Dress modestly—shoulders and knees should be covered. Sarongs are available at the counter against a refundable deposit. • Don’t carry food or drinks beyond the security gate, as they are not allowed inside the attraction. • The walk involves roughly 500 meters and some stairs, so elderly visitors or anyone wearing heels should keep that in mind. • It can get quite warm during the day, but umbrellas are provided near the sanctuary, which was a thoughtful touch and much appreciated. Overall, this was far more than just a sightseeing stop—it was a chance to witness extraordinary craftsmanship, learn about culture and philosophy, and enjoy one of the most unique structures we’ve ever seen.
