Getting started

Arrive at the classroom in Tokyo and check in for your two-hour step-by-step beginner workshop. After a brief introduction from your professional manga artist instructor, you settle into your workspace with all manga drawing materials provided. With English and Japanese language support available, you start by looking at example manga artworks and basic proportions before putting pencil to paper.

What to expect

Tokyo manga & anime drawing workshop

This hands-on manga workshop takes place in Tokyo, with a focus on character design and classic manga techniques. The session is designed so beginners can follow each stage comfortably while more experienced artists can refine their skills.

• Character design, sketching and inking instruction forms the core of the session, as you learn how to design an original manga character from scratch.
• You explore Japanese manga proportions, facial features, and expressions, then practice sketching, inking, and finishing techniques step by step under guidance.
• A professional manga artist instructor leads the entire workshop, offering personalized feedback from the manga instructor so you can adjust poses, expressions, and line work as you go.
• All manga drawing materials are provided for use during the class, including G-pens, ink, paper and screentones, along with other manga paper and drawing materials and screentones and finishing materials.
• Throughout the two-hour step-by-step beginner workshop, you receive English and Japanese language support in a format suitable for both beginners and experienced artists.
• At the end of the session, you complete an original artwork to take home as your finished manga illustration, with completed original artwork, full copyright retained so you keep full ownership of the character and drawing you create.

Wrapping up

When the workshop ends, you are free to leave with your completed illustration. Transportation to and from the classroom, including hotel pickup and drop-off, food and drinks, additional drawing materials to take home, and professional framing or shipping of the artwork are not included, so you can plan any onward travel or framing separately.
