Pro tips to help you make a pick

Wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for lots of walking, including some hilly sections where strollers are helpful for young children.

Bring sun protection and refillable water bottles, as shade is uneven and kiosks can be spaced out across the grounds.

If you have dietary preferences, consider bringing your own snacks, as onsite food is basic and often reviewed as pricey.

Simba Safari is a separate attraction from São Paulo Zoo, so make sure to choose the right ticket that specifically includes safari access before visiting.

Use taxis or ride-hailing apps if you’re unfamiliar with São Paulo’s bus system, as public transport can be confusing for non-Portuguese speakers.

Did you know?

São Paulo Zoo opened in 1958, making it one of Brazil’s oldest and most established zoological parks.

The zoo is set within the Atlantic Forest reserve of Parque Estadual das Fontes do Ipiranga, sharing green space with the city’s Botanical Garden.

A central lake, once a clay quarry, forms the heart of the zoo, with many animal enclosures and scenic viewpoints clustered around its shores.

São Paulo Zoo has played a key role in breeding programs for threatened Brazilian species, including the maned wolf.

Despite its proximity to the Zoo Safari, the two are separate attractions with different entrances and ticketing systems.
