Mr. Berger gave us a very entertaining introduction to the history of the Semperoper. It was a special experience to be there at night after 10:00 p.m. in such a beautiful building.

The tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. However, I think it would be better if the tours weren’t all held at the same time, but rather staggered—ideally by 10 to 15 minutes—so the different groups don’t get in each other’s way.

Semperoper Tour

Step inside Dresden’s Semperoper as your guide leads you through marble-floored hallways, past chandeliers that cast a golden glow on hand-painted ceilings. In the grand auditorium, see plush red velvet seats facing an ornate proscenium, where operas by Wagner once premiered. Learn about its 19th-century Neo-Renaissance design, wartime destruction, and stunning post-war restoration.
