GroupVerified booking3 weeks ago4/5You can see the old walls and castle from Carcassone fortified old town, The Cité, but you do get extra by visiting the castle itself and walking around the walls. You find out extra history inside, learn about the castle and get some great views. The walk around the walls is worth it, but a lot of steps up and down, so might not be suitable for everyone. The ticket queue wasn't too long, but we saved around 10 minutes going straight through, and it was worth paying a booking fee to know we'd got tickets for the time we wanted. I always try to pay in the local currency - so € in this case, but the charge came through in GBP though I don't remember agreeing to accept a conversionPPamela B
CoupleVerified bookingLast week5/5Carcassonne Fortress is an amazing place to visit. It's majestic turrets and cathedral have stood the test of time. I especially enjoyed reading each panel that explained the history of the growth of the fortress. The ancient stonework was remarkable. Walking the ramparts was challenging with so many steps(over 900+), but the views from the ramparts and getting to see the different rooms of the structure was a remarkable experience! Well worth the time and effort!CClare C
