The pickup was earlier than originally advised (6.20am instead of 8.00am) but it was all on time. We arrived to be met by a guide who took us round Auschwitz 1 and Auschwitz- Birkenau. The guide was very informative and was able to answer all sorts of questions relating to the visit. A guided tour is a great idea but it is well worth reading up on the subject before going.

  • Go back in time with a visit to the Auschwitz & Birkenau Memorial and Museum. Experience and learn about one of the greatest tragedies in the history of humankind with a certified English-speaking guide.

    Auschwitz 1

Get picked up from Krakow and board a comfortable bus for the 1.5-hour ride to the Auschwitz-Birkenau complex. Upon arrival, your local guide will show you around the site and tell you about its tragic history. Walk through the gate marked "Arbeit Macht Frei" to step into Auschwitz 1, the original concentration camp. Here, tour the barracks, view black and white photographs taken while the camp was in operation, see the prison cells, and learn some harrowing statistics about the people held captive here, mostly Jews.

    Birkenau

Next, visit Birkenau which sits a few kilometers apart from Auschwitz 1. The first thing you will notice here is it’s massive size. This camp was built in 1941 to house the huge number of deportees from Europe. In January 1945, the Germans blew up most of the barracks and the crematoriums to hide their crimes, but is still well worth the visit. Spend sometime here listening to how the Nazi "Final Solution to the Jewish Question" took place.
