    Getting started

Meet your guide at the Acropolis entrance 15 minutes before the tour begins. After a quick introduction and ticket validation, start your journey through the ancient monuments.

    Athena’s masterpiece

Start your exploration at the Parthenon, the Acropolis’ crowning jewel. Hear how this iconic temple, dedicated to Athena, was built in just eight years and became a symbol of Athens' power, with its frieze and sculptures celebrating the city’s victories and glory.

    Victory in stone

Next, head to the Temple of Athena Nike, perched on the southwest corner of the Acropolis. This small but stunning temple commemorates the Athenian victories over Persia. Your guide will share how the Athenians celebrated military success with rituals and offerings, and explain how the temple’s design symbolizes victory without war.

    Where myths meet architecture

Continue to the Erechtheion, famous for its asymmetrical design and the elegant Caryatids—sculpted maidens who act as columns. Your guide will explain the rich mythology behind the site, where gods and mortals once interacted. Hear the myth of Poseidon and Athena’s rivalry for the city, and how the sacred olive tree was said to have been planted here.

The gateway to the sacred Hill

As you approach the Propylaea, the monumental gateway to the Acropolis, your guide will reveal how this grand entrance was once a symbol of the city’s wealth and grandeur. Learn how the Propylaea’s design reflects the importance of Athens as a cultural and political hub in ancient Greece.

  • What to bring

    • Ensure you have a valid photo ID that matches the name on your booking voucher for smooth access.

    • Wear durable shoes as the Acropolis trails are rocky, uneven, and include steep uphill areas that may become slippery in any weather.

    • Don’t forget a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen, as the hill provides minimal shade and the sun can be harsh.

    What’s not allowed

    • Flash photography and tripods are forbidden on the site, and professional photo or film shoots require prior approval from the Ministry.

    • For security reasons, large bags, suitcases, and oversized luggage are not allowed at the Acropolis.

    • Pets are not permitted, except for certified service animals.

    • Smoking, eating, and drinking (other than water) are not allowed within the archaeological grounds.

    Accessibility

    • The Acropolis has limited accessibility for visitors with mobility challenges. While there is an elevator near the South Slope entrance, its operation is managed entirely by the venue and may not always be available. Contact the site a day before your visit at +30 210 3214172 or +30 210 9238470 to confirm availability.

    • Paved paths and ramps improve accessibility in some areas, though certain ancient surfaces remain uneven, which could present difficulties for wheelchair users.

    • Accessible restrooms are located near the entrance, and trained staff are available to assist visitors with special needs.

    • Benches and resting areas are scattered throughout the site, though shaded areas are limited.

    • Tactile signage and audio guides are available to support visitors with visual or hearing impairments.
