Discover Almería’s illustrious heritage of art, culture and history on this museum tour! Your first stop is at the Almería Heritage Interpretation Center which is divided into three sections, each representing a historical phase in the city. the Muslim Almería is on the first floor, the Christian Almería on the second, and the contemporary or present-day Almería is on the third floor. In addition to these three historical perspectives, it also has a panoramic terrace view of the most important fortress in the city, the Alcazaba.
Continue onwards to The Museum of Spanish Guitar, ‘Antonio Torres’ to learn about the history of one of the most popular musical instruments in the world. Learn the primary keys of the guitar in a fun and interactive way, and listen to your guide tell you about the story of its origins, of the lutier Antonio Torres, considered the father of contemporary guitar. Admire the beautiful exhibition of guitars that have been played by artists known worldwide such as Andrés Segovia, Paco de Lucía and Tomatito. From here, head to the Doña Pakyta Museum of Art, the former residence of the Almerian businesswoman and environmentalist, Doña Pakyta. Her home is an example of the Spanish regionalist architecture of the 20s and is a cultural center and exhibition space which features Almerian art in seven rooms over two floors.
Finally, your last stop for the day is at the Archaeological Museum of Almería, where you will find the largest collection of archaeological remains in the city. See how the first agricultural and livestock societies thrived here, and look at the exhibition dedicated to the Millares, mosaics, Roman remains and a room dedicated to the Islamic Almeria. They also have a permanent exhibition hall and a semi-rotating exhibition hall. Once the guided tour is finished you will have free time to explore this last area at your own pace.
