Tokyo: Family Sumo Workshop & Live Wrestling Show with Lunch

Step into a real sumo ring in Tokyo’s Ryogoku district for a hands-on family workshop, live wrestling show, and chanko hotpot lunch in just 2 hours.

Getting started

Begin your experience by meeting your guide in front of the face-in-hole photo board at the shop, where a staff member holding a smartphone with “AlvaJapan” will greet you. After check-in, you’ll be welcomed into the sumo venue and given access to the ring. The session starts with an introduction from former professional wrestlers, who provide commentary in both English and Japanese.

What to expect

This experience unfolds in the heart of Ryogoku, the traditional center of sumo in Tokyo.

• Join a hands-on sumo ring experience led by former professional wrestlers, where you’ll learn basic moves such as shiko (leg stomps), teppo (striking drills), and suri-ashi (sliding footwork).

• Watch a live wrestling show up close, with family participation encouraged, then step into the ring yourself or film as loved ones don a padded sumo suit to challenge a wrestler.

• Commentary is provided in both English and Japanese, making the rituals and techniques accessible for all ages.

• All interactive training equipment, including padded suits, is provided for a safe and engaging session.

• After the matches, enjoy free photo time with the wrestlers using your own camera or phone.

Chanko hotpot lunch

Following the workshop and show, sit down for a mini chanko hotpot lunch—the same protein-rich meal sumo wrestlers eat to build strength.

• The lunch features a hearty hotpot with fresh vegetables and meat, with vegetarian, vegan, halal, and allergy-friendly options available if requested at least 48 hours in advance.

• This meal is served in the venue, allowing you to dine alongside the wrestlers and continue the cultural exchange.

Wrapping up

After lunch and photos, your experience concludes at the venue. If you have dietary restrictions, be sure to communicate them in advance so the team can accommodate your needs. Transport to the venue and any additional menu items or alcoholic beverages are not included and can be arranged separately if desired.
