Nous avons réservé cette excursion des mois à l'avance. Tout est bien guidé et indiqué. L'application nous a mené au point de rencontre qui était un petit café au milieu d'une place. Il est important d'arriver au moins 20 à 30 min à l'avance par rapport à l'heure de notre activité. Le guide nous a donc emmené vers la file d'attente pour la sécurité. Un guide très sympa qui prennait le temps de discuter avec le groupe pendant l'attente. Etant le lendemain du lundi de Pâques, il fallait compter 1h de file pour passer la sécurité, mais cela nous laissait le temps d'admirer la basilique de l'extérieur et de faire quelques photos. Ensuite, nous sommes directement montés au dome et nous avons encore attendu une petite heure avant de monter (max 100 personnes en haut). L'attente en vallait le détour !! une vue splendide sur l'ensemble du vatican !! Nous avons choisi les marches et cela ne nous a pas choqué. Il y a la possibilité de faire des pauses. Par contre attention aux personnes clostrophobes, les excaliers sont parfois très étroits

J’ai eu la chance de faire la visite guidée de la basilique Saint-Pierre avec Sam, et je ne peux que le recommander vivement. C’était tout simplement génial ! Sam parle un français parfait, il est très compréhensif, à l’écoute et prend le temps de répondre à toutes les questions. Il maîtrise parfaitement son sujet : ses connaissances sont impressionnantes, et il sait les transmettre de manière claire et passionnante, sans jamais être trop scolaire. La visite était rythmée par des anecdotes captivantes qui rendent l’expérience encore plus vivante. Il nous a tout montré avec beaucoup de pédagogie et d’enthousiasme. En plus, il nous a vraiment facilité la visite en nous indiquant comment gérer l’attente pour accéder au dôme, ce qui est un vrai plus ! Franchement, c’était parfait du début à la fin. Un grand merci à Sam pour ce moment exceptionnel ! Les corses

Die Führung durch den Petersdom war super. Trotz einer langen Warteschlange, die über den ganzen Platz ging, hat uns der Guide sehr gut informiert aber auch unterhalten. Er hat Fakten mit Humor gemischt, was die Wartezeit umso angenehmer gestalten hat. Diesen Stil hat er ebenfalls in der Kirche behalten, was sehr angenehm war. Nachteil: Die Audioverbindung zum Guide ist in der Kirchen häufig abgebrochen oder hat sich mit einer anderen Gruppe vermischt. Deswegen konnte man den Guide an gewissen Zeitpunkten nicht hören.

The booking and the guide were very good. Easy to find guide and they ensured the whole group got though each step. However it took 2 hours to get though the security the ticket system but this was the Vatican not the tour guide. If you find a skip the queue ticket get it! The experience was great, the lift does not take you to thr very top but the walk up was interesting but not for the everyone. Small and crowded. Still glad we did it

Wir hatten heute eine fantastische Führung im Petersdom. Schon während wir in der Warteschlange standen, haben wir so viele interessante Informationen erhalten, dass uns die Wartezeit sehr kurz vorkam. Im Dom selbst gibt es so unglaublich viel zu sehen, dass es ohne Führung kaum möglich ist, alles zu erfassen. Wir würden diese Führung jederzeit wieder buchen und können sie absolut weiterempfehlen.

The tour guide was excellent. Truly excellent. He did a brilliant job in difficult circumstances. You need to know that there is an unavoidable queue to get into the church via the security scanners. No fast track exists. It is a long queue but moves pretty quickly. The tour guide kept us entertained all the wait with the history and architecture of the area. Once you are in there is a "fast track" for guides in that there are 3 checkpoints to 1 the ordinary way. The Bascillia is breathtaking and worth the visit alone. The guide made it much more interesting however. My kids were engaged through it and asked questions which he was really good at answering. His enthusiasm and knowledge was outstanding. The Dome - personally I would not bother. It's a very long queue to get even to the stairs and the view is fine but nothing special in the scheme of elevated places. Save the time and spend more in the church is my advice. The tour guide is worth the money. Audio guides we also had are just not close to bringing it to life and you can't ask questions!!

Die Kuppeltour, ein absolutes Muss für jeden Besucher des Vatikans/Petersdoms. Der Treffpunkt war leicht zu finden, unser Tourguide war sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Alles hat reibungslos geklappt. Wir werden wieder über Headout buchen. Klare Empfehlung!

What to bring

A valid photo ID or passport is required for security checks.

Wear comfortable walking shoes—expect stairs and long stretches on foot.

Dress modestly: both men and women must cover shoulders and knees. Sleeveless tops, shorts above the knee, and miniskirts are not allowed.

Bring your own earphones/headphones to use the digital audio guide on your smartphone.

What’s not allowed

Large bags, backpacks, suitcases, and luggage are not permitted inside the Basilica or Dome.

No flash photography, food, drinks, glass items, or smoking on the premises.

Animals are not allowed, except registered service animals.

There is no cloakroom service.

After 6pm, access to the Vatican Grottoes and explanations inside the Basilica are restricted.

Accessibility

This experience is not wheelchair accessible.

The Dome climb involves 551 steep, narrow stairs and confined spaces. It is not suitable for infants, pregnant individuals, or visitors with mobility concerns, heart conditions, vertigo, or claustrophobia.

The elevator only reaches the terrace—an additional 320 steps are required to reach the summit.

Minimum recommended age for the Dome climb is 6; all minors up to 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Additional information

All visitors must pass through airport-style security checks, which can take 30–90 minutes—please arrive at least 15–45 minutes before your scheduled entry. This may extend your overall visit duration.

The Dome and roof terrace may close in bad weather.

Entry to St. Peter’s Basilica and the Dome may be suspended without notice due to religious ceremonies or Vatican events. If this happens, suitable alternatives will be arranged.

The special access passage between the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica is closed on Wednesdays and during major events like Easter. In such cases, your guide will take you to the Pinacoteca Gallery instead.

QR codes for entry and audio guide activation are required—check your email (and spam folder) before arrival.

No refunds or date changes are allowed in case of visitor cancellations or closures due to religious events.
