We totally enjoyed the whole visit , with clear instructions on where to go to retrieve our tickets and proceed to the dome queue first . That was an amazing experience and then afterwards we're in awe of the beauty of the Basilica . We got a couple of reminders the day before which were useful as everything you needed was at hand on your phone . That wasn't the case with every trip we booked so would highly recommend this one .

Une entrée aux contrôles très impressionnante car nous avons vécu l'horreur à Rome sur d'autres sites! Franchement nous avons été impressionnés par la qualité du service de Head Out. When we saw the long line of people waiting to get tickets to the Basilica, we were greatly relieved to find ourselves moving swiftly through the reserved line and straight in! The audio tour was very thorough and easily allowed us to move at our own pace, from the nave through the side chapels, lall the way to the top of the dome. We had a splendid time; thank you for making this so easy!

Es war alles wunderbar. Der Treffpunkt war nicht ganz so leicht zu finden. Es wäre hilfreich, wenn man wüsste, dass man nicht nach Headout Ausschau halten muss. Es war eine sehr nette Frau, die sich dann auch um uns gekümmert hat und uns alles übergeben hat. Wir hatten sehr schnellen Eintritt ohne Wartezeit. Die Kontrolle ging auch sehr schnell und wir haben alles sehr genossen.

The directions on WhatsApp were excellent. We were easily able to find the entry point for our skip-the-line tickets. The Basilica was amazing. We were never offered our audio guide sets, but were prepared with our free audio guide by Rick Steves. This made our experience seemless and very memorable.

Un peu de difficultés à trouver le Bar l'Ottagiono (ou un nom qui s'y rapproche) pour récupérer les billets coupe-ligne. Mais ces derniers ne m'ont pas semblé mieux pour une entrée plus rapide que pour ceux et celles qui n'avaient pas ces billets. J'étais tout de même heureux de les avoir pour monter en haut dans la coupole. Mais là haut, la vue de Rome n'était pas aussispectaculaire que ce à quoi je m'attendais. Des structures bloquaient lavue. Somme toute, ça vaut la peine d'aller à la Basilique Saint-Pierre.

Start your visit by joining the free-entry line outside St. Peter’s Basilica. After clearing the security check at the entrance, open the link sent to your email and activate your digital audio guide through your phone. What to bring

Personal earphones to use with the audio guide on your smartphone.

A valid photo ID matching the name on your booking (may be checked at entry).

For Reserved Entry or Dome variants: Make sure you’ve received your QR codes for both entry and audio guide activation (check spam or retrieve them online if needed).

What’s not allowed

Large bags, luggage, or suitcases. Only small backpacks or personal bags allowed (no cloakroom on-site).

Food, drinks, smoking, and pets.

Pet animals are not permitted. However, registered service animals assisting those with disabilities are allowed.

Flash photography, tripods, and filming gear. (Non-flash photography is allowed.)

Accessibility

The Dome involves a steep climb of up to 551 steps and isn’t recommended for infants, pregnant visitors, or those with mobility issues, heart conditions, claustrophobia, or vertigo.

Not wheelchair accessible.

All visitors must pass airport-style security.

Additional information

There are two queues at the main entrance — a free entry queue and a reserved entry queue. Only if you've selected the reserved entry option at checkout are you eligible to skip the free entry line.

During peak hours, brief waits may still occur due to mandatory security checks, even for guests with skip-the-line access.

Modest dress is required: no shorts, mini skirts, or sleeveless tops.

If you’ve reserved entry, arrive at least 45 minutes early to clear security—especially during busy times.

The audio guide is smartphone-only; bring earphones and ensure your device is charged.

Minimum age: 6 years. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

This experience is non-refundable.

Closures & exceptions

Papal Tombs are not accessible for 6pm entries—only the Basilica will be open.

The Basilica and/or Dome may close without notice due to religious ceremonies. If access is restricted, alternatives will be provided.

Special access from the Sistine Chapel to the Basilica is unavailable on Wednesdays and during major celebrations like Easter.
