The Beckoning Chimes of St. Mark's

Venice has an iconic religious and architectural history, of which the St. Mark Bell Tower is a symbol. The tallest structure in Venice, it is an unmistakable part of the Venetian landscape standing 99 meters high. The tower has a robust Byzantine architecture, while the golden rotating statue of the Archangel Gabriel caps the tower with a touch of classic Venetian splendor.

The Loggetta of San Sovino that serves as the base of the tower used to be an arsenal unit, and is lined with statues of Roman gods like Mercury and Apollo. The reliefs display intricate allegories like Cyprus as Venus, born on the islands close to the water.
