We had a great snorkeling experience! Thomas was a fantastic guide—friendly, attentive, and very knowledgeable. He explained everything clearly and made us feel comfortable throughout the tour. I also asked if he could record a specific video with the GoPro they use during the tour, and he was more than happy to do it. I really appreciated the extra effort. Thank you, Thomas!

Snorkel between tectonic plates at Silfra and capture your underwater adventure with included GoPro photos, a 3-hour experience.

Getting started

Arrive at the Silfra meeting point in Thingvellir National Park, where your certified guide will greet you and check your signed medical statement. After a safety briefing, you’ll receive your drysuit, thermal undersuit, and snorkeling gear before walking to the entry point.

What to expect

Silfra Fissure

Silfra is a world-renowned snorkeling site, located in the rift between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. The glacial water, filtered through volcanic rock, offers visibility over 100 meters, making it some of the clearest water on the planet.

Features

Continental rift snorkeling: Float directly between two continents in crystal-clear, glacier-fed water, a geological phenomenon unique to Silfra.

Certified guide: Explore safely with an expert who provides all instructions and ensures your comfort throughout the experience.

GoPro underwater photos: Receive complimentary digital photos of your journey, captured by your guide.

Premium equipment: Use a drysuit, thermal undersuit, fins, and mask for warmth and ease in the cold water.

Warm treats: Enjoy a Hraun chocolate bar and hot chocolate after your swim, included to help you warm up.

Secure storage: Personal belongings are safely stored while you snorkel.

What to bring

Bring thermal underwear (top and bottom), an extra pair of warm socks, and a change of clothes.

Wear warm clothes as your first layer.

Bring contact lenses if you require vision correction, as eyeglasses cannot be worn with the snorkeling mask.

Remove all jewelry (earrings, necklaces, watches, wristbands, rings, etc.) before the tour.

Bring a signed and completed Snorkeling Medical Statement; participants aged 60–69 must also provide a signed doctor’s waiver.

What’s not allowed

Pregnant individuals are not permitted to participate at any stage of pregnancy.

Participation is not allowed for those who cannot swim, are not physically fit, or cannot communicate in English.

Eyeglasses are not allowed with the snorkeling mask; contact lenses are recommended.

Pick-up is not available from Keflavik airport or locations outside the greater Reykjavik area.

Children under 12 years old are not permitted (exceptions may be considered by inquiry and must meet size and safety requirements).

Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal adult.

Accessibility

This experience is not wheelchair accessible.

Additional information

Minimum age is 12 years; maximum age is 69 years. Participants aged 60–69 require a signed doctor’s waiver.

Height requirement: 135–200 cm; weight requirement: 30–120 kg.

All participants must be able to swim, be physically fit, and communicate in English.

All participants must read, sign, and submit the Snorkeling Medical Statement before the tour.

Dry suits are tight at the neck and may allow slight water leakage at the neck and sleeves; this is considered normal.

Secure storage for personal belongings is provided during the activity.

Complimentary GoPro underwater photos are included.

Booking an early morning or late afternoon tour is recommended in summer for the best experience.

Meals are not included, except for a Hraun chocolate bar and hot chocolate.

Tips/gratuities and personal expenses are not included.
