Visiting the Pena palace and Quinta da Regaleria was a one of a kind experience. The colors of the palace and the surrounding gardens made me think like I was in Alice in Wonderland. The gardens were mesmerizing we had fun exploring them. Talking abour Quinta da Regaleria will never be enough, to express what we experienced. So mysterious, a journey of the soul and very mystical. It was like nothing we had seen before. Overall it was a wonderful day and ironically the last day in Portugal for us. Couldn't recommend enough for everyone that goes to Portugal to visit these places, it is a MUST!!

Cogimos un Bolt que nos dejó a 10 minutos andando porque no les dejan pasar. Es cuesta arriba. En cuanto al Palacio, destacar su entorno frondoso y boscoso, construcciones como las diversas torres, fuentes y grutas. Muy recomendable. Quizás el Palacio es más atractivo por fuera que por dentro. En dos horas se visita sin problema está actividad

Quinta da Regaleira was outstanding. Although the entrance was very busy we moved quickly through the line and actually entered 15 mins early. The audio guide was helpful in providing direction, the site is huge and providing insights for those Knights Templar symbols that are all over the site and the town of Sintra.

Quinta da Regaleira Was amazing. We had timed tickets that worked perfectly. It is a magical place and a must visit if you are in Portugal. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It was also not very crowded. The coffee shop had great food and was not expensive. You could spend hours there.

Por falha minha não descarreguei os bilhetes a tempo e quando chegámos à quinta não estava a avonseguir aceder à aplicação. Contactei o serviço de apoio que rapidamente nos enviou os ingressos . Tudo muito rápido e fácil. O áudio guia também funcionou perfeitamente. Recomendo este operador.

Una experiencia maravillosa en el Palacio y Parque de Monserrate. Los jardines exóticos y la hermosa arquitectura del palacio son realmente impresionantes. El acceso rápido de Headout funcionó a la perfección y nos ahorró bastante tiempo en la entrada. ¡Una visita totalmente recomendada!

La Quinta da Regaleira té racons realment fascinants, com el famós pou iniciàtic i el seu entramat de túnels, però l'experiència global queda molt deslluïda per la massificació turística. És gairebé impossible gaudir del misticisme o de la pau dels seus jardins quan has de fer cues monumentals només per fer una foto o per caminar pels senders. A més, la manca de control en l'aforament fa que un lloc que hauria de ser màgic es converteixi en un espai estressant i incòmode de visitar.

The Pena Palace pre booking tickets helped get in line faster since the tickets were sold out the day we were there. Besides the entry tickets there are other tickets needed so please keep in mind. Shuttle tickets to get inside and outside are recommended since it was 100degrees F the day we visited. Quinta R was too tough, the shuttles were late and the walk was hot and long

One minute you're spiralling underground into Regaleira's famous well. The next, you're standing beneath Monserrate's elaborate arches. This combo gives you two very different reasons to spend longer in Sintra.

Getting started

Visit the two estates independently and present your ticket at each entrance. At Quinta da Regaleira, use the activation link to unlock your audio tour, then download the text, narration, and maps for offline use. At Monserrate, use your fast-track entry to bypass the regular ticket queue and select your audio guide language before heading in.

What to expect

Quinta da Regaleira

Forget the usual palace routine, and Regaleira is built for exploring. The estate was designed with wells, grottoes, tunnels, towers, and symbolic structures hidden throughout the grounds. Keep following the paths and something interesting keeps turning up.

Features:

Descend the Initiation Well: Take the famous spiral staircase down through the well's nine levels, then follow the underground route below. It's easily Regaleira's most photographed sight, and seeing it from inside is the whole point.

Go through the Portal of the Guardians: Look for the dramatic stone structure beside the lake, guarded by mythological figures. From here, you can access one of the estate's underground passages and continue the exploration below ground.

Find the Unfinished Well: Don't stop after the Initiation Well. This second well is rougher and less polished, with a staircase winding down through its stone walls, another excellent reason to keep looking beyond the obvious.

Explore the palace and chapel: Step inside the main palace and visit the nearby Chapel of the Holy Trinity, where elaborate carvings and decorative details continue the estate's love affair with symbolism.

Monserrate Palace & Park

Monserrate is where the architecture gets seriously theatrical. Ornate arches, decorative plasterwork, and light-filled spaces make the palace worth slowing down for—but don't make the mistake of leaving once you've seen the interiors. Some of the estate's best discoveries are waiting outside.

Features:

Walk through the Central Gallery: Step into one of the palace's most striking spaces, where a sequence of elaborate arches creates the distinctive look Monserrate is known for. Definitely look up.

Stop by the Music Room and Library: Explore rooms designed for entertaining and relaxing, including the Music Room, known for its acoustics, and the Library, one of the palace's more intimate spaces.

Wander into Fern Valley: Leave the palace and head into a lush valley filled with tree ferns and winding paths. The scenery changes fast here, making it feel very different from the formal palace grounds.

Explore the Japanese and Rose Gardens: Make time for the Japanese Garden, with its carefully arranged landscape, and the Rose Garden, where another completely different side of Monserrate's park unfolds.

Prepare for warm weather: During the summer months, bring a hat or cap for sun protection and water to stay hydrated in high temperatures.

Wear comfortable footwear: Choose comfortable shoes, as the experience involves a fair amount of walking.

Monserrate Palace

Dress for exploring the park: Wear comfortable walking shoes and clothing, so allow yourself enough time to walk around comfortably. A hat and water can also come in handy on warmer days.

Audio guide: Download the audio app before reaching the meeting point to dodge any network glitches at the location.

What's not allowed

Travel light: Suitcases, trolleys, large backpacks, tripods, and drones are not permitted.

Photography: Flash photography is strictly prohibited at the venue

Visiting with animals: Pets are not allowed, except for guide dogs and service animals.

Device compatibility: The app is not compatible with Windows phones.

Keep pathways clear and respect other visitors: Help prevent congestion by keeping the different sections moving smoothly. Please avoid loud noises or behaviour that may disturb other visitors.

Leave the site as you found it: Do not touch the displayed assets or objects, and please do not pick flowers or plants from the gardens.

Smoking and fire restrictions: Lighting fires is strictly prohibited. Smoking is allowed only in designated areas.

Food and drinking water: Snacks are not permitted on the premises, and water from fountains or other water sources should not be consumed, as it is not suitable for drinking.

Monserrate Palace

Bringing your dog to restricted areas: Dogs are welcome in the Park of Monserrate, but they must stay on designated paths and out of areas marked as off-limits. Dogs must not disturb other visitors or animals.

Rules: Only one dog is allowed per visitor and must be kept on a non-extendable leash. Potentially dangerous breeds must be accompanied by someone over 16 and wear a muzzle and a leash no longer than one metre.

Accessibility

Quinta da Regaleira

Take extra care around uneven areas: Some parts of Quinta da Regaleira have obstacles, steps, tunnels, and rugged terrain. Please pay close attention while moving around the site.

Supervision requirements: Due to the site's terrain and physical characteristics, visitors with reduced mobility and children under 15 must be accompanied at all times.

Monserrate Palace

Parking: Two parking spaces are reserved for visitors with mobility restrictions.

Access inside the palace: The Palace entrance and ground floor can be accessed via a ramp. However, the second floor and kitchen are not accessible to visitors with mobility restrictions.

Areas: Accessible toilets, as well as an accessible cafeteria and shop, are available.

Moving through the park: A recommended accessible route leads from the entrance towards the Palace, although some sections are steep and are best attempted with an assistant.

Reserve mobility equipment in advance: Manual folding wheelchairs and traction equipment are also available with advance reservation, subject to availability.

Guide dogs: Properly identified assistance dogs are allowed on site, and drinking bowls are available for them.
