Invalides: Napoleon's Tomb & Army Museum Skip-the-Line Entry Tickets

Visiting Les Invalides with my son was one of the best things we did in Paris this autumn. We went on a Sunday at the end of October, and the Headout app made the whole thing super easy. I actually bought my ticket right outside the entrance, and it took about two minutes. Then I just showed the QR code on my phone and walked straight in. It worked out fine for us, but I'd still recommend booking in advance, especially on weekends or in high season, just in case tickets for your time slot run out. One thing worth knowing if you're travelling with a student: my son is under 26 with an EU passport, so his entry was free, but you can't get that ticket in the app. He had to go to the ticket office with his ID, so don't expect to walk in together. Also, if your kid isn't from the EU, just buy them a regular ticket with yours. Inside, Napoleon's tomb is the big moment. You look down at the huge red sarcophagus from the balcony, then go down and stand right next to it, and it's surprisingly quiet and calm. But honestly, don't make the mistake of seeing only the tomb and leaving! The Army Museum is huge. The knights' armour (horses included!) was a favourite for both of us, and the World Wars wing was the part that stayed with us the most. Give yourself at least 2–3 hours and wear comfy shoes, because there's a lot of walking on stone floors and stairs. Quick tip: from November it closes at 17:00, so go early, and most labels are in French, so the audio guide is worth it. Overall, it was a day well spent, and something both generations enjoyed.

The museum was informative and well put together, although many displays were only in French, making them difficult to understand. Napoleon’s tomb and the impressive building were absolutely amazing to see in person. The only downside was the noticeable dust throughout the building, especially on the pillars and displays. Overall, a fascinating historical experience well worth visiting.

Дуже велика колекція зброї та речей, які пов'язані із військовими справами французької армії. Я вперше побачив як реально виглядали мушкети та фузеї, пістолі та холодна зброя тих часів. Чесно кажучи, уявляв їх собі, як дещо архаїчне та примітивне. Виявилося, що це досить технологічні та досконалі речі. Рекомендую усім до простору експозиції музею!

What to bring

Bring a valid photo ID for entry and to collect any access passes if required.

Keep your ticket with you until the end, as it may be checked at different points on site.

What’s not allowed

Do not bring large bags, suitcases, or oversized luggage, as there are no lockers for storage.

Do not bring pets, except for registered service animals.

Do not consume food or drinks inside the exhibition spaces.

Do not use flash, tripods, or filming equipment inside the museum.

Accessibility

Visitors with motor disabilities can enter through the Place Vauban side.

Visitors with mobility impairments can borrow a wheelchair at ticket desks on the Esplanade des Invalides and Place Vauban sides, leaving an ID at reception.

Toilets in the museum areas are accessible to visitors with reduced mobility.

Additional information

The museum is free for visitors under 18 and EU citizens under 26, but you must collect a ticket or access pass on-site.

Cloakrooms are available only for small items.

The museum is closed on January 1, May 1, and December 25.

The tills close 30 minutes before the museum closing time, so plan your visit accordingly.

Access is from the Esplanade des Invalides from 10am to 6pm and from Place Vauban from 2pm to 6pm.

Family activities run on weekends at 11am and 2:30pm in French, with children’s tickets sold on-site and subject to availability.

Arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled entry or tour start time.
