Getting started

Your experience includes a one-way Kuranda Scenic Railway journey, guided coach transfers between Cairns and the Kuranda region, and free time in Kuranda Village. Depending on the option selected, enjoy hotel pickup in Cairns and travel either by scenic rail from Freshwater Railway Station to Kuranda before returning by guided coach, or travel by coach directly to Kuranda Village and return by scenic rail from Kuranda Railway Station to Freshwater Railway Station before transferring back to your Cairns hotel.

What to expect

Kuranda Scenic Railway journey: Travel aboard the historic Kuranda Scenic Railway through lush rainforest landscapes, passing waterfalls, bridges, and scenic views of Barron Gorge National Park.

Self-guided time in Kuranda Village: Enjoy free time to independently explore Kuranda Village, browse the Kuranda Heritage Markets, visit cafés and shops, or discover local wildlife attractions at your own pace.

What to bring

Wear comfortable shoes and bring sunglasses and a sun hat.

What’s not allowed

Outside drinks and smoking are not allowed.

Accessibility

The Kuranda Scenic Rail is wheelchair and pram/ stroller accessible. Please note only small folding strollers (no higher than 25cm when folded) can be accommodated onboard the carriages.

Guide dogs are welcome on this experience. Please contact the operator in advance if travelling with an assistance animal and have your handler card available.

Additional Information

Note: Your transfer between Smithfield Terminal and Freshwater Railway Station may take place on the same coach from Cairns or on a separate connecting coach, depending on operational requirements. Your onboard guide will assist you with all transfer details and directions on the day.

The Kuranda Scenic Rail departs from Freshwater Railway Station.

Children below 14 must be accompanied by an adult on the Scenic Rail.

This tour includes round-trip transfers from select hotels in Cairns.

Free car parking is available at the railway station.
