Il castello è magnifico. Tenuto molto bene. È molto bello vedere la città dall'alto dei bastioni. Sedersi nel cortile interno al castello è rilassante. La passeggiata sulle mura è spettacolare. Essendo fuori stagione non c'era molta gente per cui la nostra visita è andata molto bene.

Booking worked out. The link to start the activity does not match the reality, the entrance to the castle is about 50 m away around the corner. Our ticket had a fixed time for entering, we showed up 30 minutes earlier, this was no problem. The tour is nice, the castle and the interior is in good shape, the walk around the town on the wall is amazing. All in all a must, if you are around Carcassone.

Eine ganz besondere Burg. Einmal auf der Aussenmauer entlang gehen um die Burg von innen besichtigen. Auch die komplette Cité mit ihren Gassen, Häusern und Restaurants ist so gut erhalten. Heute leben dort ca. 230 Menschen. Auf jeden Fall eine Reise wert. Zeit nur für die Burg haben wir in 1,5 Std. geschafft. Leider wie so oft in Frankreich keine Handzettel oder Schilder in Deutsch.

Present you mobile ticket at Carcassonne Castle’s main entrance and breeze past the queues. For the walking tour, use your smartphone and headphones to access the audio guide (downloading it in advance is recommended) and explore at your own pace.

This experience combines direct entry to the castle and ramparts with an in-depth walking tour of the city. Use the audio guide to move between 19 narrated stops, from defensive towers to hidden alleys, while uncovering the myths, history, and architecture that define Carcassonne.

What to bring

It is recommended to wear comfortable shoes for the day-long tour.

Carry headphones and ensure your smartphone is charged.

Activate and download the tour in advance as there may be no Wi-Fi and a weak mobile signal at the starting point.

What’s not allowed

Pets are not permitted, except for service animals.

Smoking is prohibited inside the castle.

Scooters, bicycles, helmets, non-folding strollers, and bulky luggage are not permitted inside the Château Comtal or along the ramparts.

This experience may not be fully accessible for wheelchair users or those with limited mobility.

Additional information

Entry is free for disabled guests with an accompanying adult, jobseekers (on presentation of a certificate less than 6 months old), and holders of a valid education pass or culture pass.

Carcassonne Castle offers free admission on select days, including the European Heritage Days on 20 & 21 September 2025, and on the first Sunday of January, February, March, November, and December.

To avoid large crowds at the entrance, it is recommended to arrive 1 hour after the monument opens.

The museum will remain closed for safety reasons.
