The Notre Dame is considered to be one of the greatest examples of the unique French Gothic architecture. Construction began in 1163, and took over 170 years to fully finish. The treasury of the cathedral houses some of the most important relics in Christianity. These include one of the Holy Nails, that was used for the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. A fragment of the Holy Cross is also safely locked away. The lle de la Cite is one of the two natural islands on the River Seine. It is connected to the rest of Paris through a number of bridges, of which Pont Neuf is the oldest and most famous. The island has three primary attractions, the Notre Dame Cathedral, the Conciergerie prison and Louis IX’s Sainte-Chapelle. The Sainte-Chapelle has one of the greatest collections of 13th-century stained glass collections in the world. The Conciergerie was the location where Queen Marie Antoinette was imprisoned for execution in the 18th century.
You will meet your host near the Notre Dame Cathedral. You will then embark on a tour around the lle de la Cite. On this 30-minute walking tour, your guide will brief you on the history of the region, and its importance through the centuries. The interior of the cathedral presents a picture of luxury and You will be allowed to enter the tall Notre Dame Towers by yourself. As you climb the 422 steps of the Gothic Cathedral Tower, you will see some of the hidden wonders of this church. The stained glass windows filter vibrant light into the church and their massive size coupled with intricate detailing is breathtaking. A statue of the legendary Joan of Arc, can also be seen.
You will be able to view these wonderful works of art in a better light, as you climb up the stairs. Gargoyles, which are linked with Gothic art and architecture can be seen throughout the cathedral. From the top of the tower, you will be treated to gorgeous panoramic views of the city of Paris. You can see the colossal Eiffel Tower in the distance, the Seine River flowing nearby and numerous other monuments of the city of love. The chimera statues, one of the trademarks of the Notre Dame can be seen overlooking the parapet on top of the tower.

The cathedral is open from 9:30 AM to 6 PM from Monday to Friday and 9 AM to 6 PM on Saturdays and Sundays. Your tour will be for one hour and you can choose between 10 AM or 2 PM time slots, depending on the day.
