I’m posting this to thank Michaela, who was our driver and guide to Milford Sound from Queenstown on 9/2/25. It was a full day for us, picking up from the hotel at 6:30 and back to Queenstown by 19:45, but the Milford Sound Cruise was beautiful and totally worth the trip. The coach was very comfy and not crowded; take your flight neck supports, and we managed to catch a few naps on the way back. The trip out flew by with Michaela picking some great stops for photo ops and her commentary. The return trip felt longer since we only stopped for a bathroom break, but we were all getting tired and just wanted to get back as quickly as possible, which Michaela did admirably. A long day of driving and entertaining, so thanks again, Michaela, for taking such good care of us.

Our coach had already picked up a lot of passengers in Queenstown, but our driver, Paul, had saved seats for the Te Anau group, so we could sit with our family. We got a very informative and entertaining commentary as we headed down to Milford, with a few stops for photos. The cruise part was equally well organized, and the scenery was breathtaking. The captain took us close to the seals and waterfalls, and we got some great photos, although none can really capture the majesty of the surroundings. It got quite busy outside on the top deck with people jostling for the best spots for their photos - but that's just the way it is these days.

Choosing the right day is crucial; we shifted our trip by a day to right after heavy rain, so the waterfalls were stunning in full flow. The bus ride took longer than I thought at about 4 hours, but the driver was great with the history and info about key spots, plus we had some funny banter along the way. I wish we could’ve stopped by some of the rushing rivers for a few pics since the water was so clear. It's great in a group to take photos, so don’t be shy to ask others to snap group shots; it would be cool to have a boat camera for solo shots like they do at the Skyline Inn in Queenstown.

Taking this tour was one of the best decisions we made on our trip. We booked the transport to Milford Sound from Te Anau, and it was amazing. I also picked this tour because of the reasonable time frame (7 hours instead of others that were 8-10 hours from Te Anau). Tony was our guide, and he was super knowledgeable and informative throughout the drive, so even with the early start, I was captivated the whole time. The roads can be winding and narrow, and having driven all over NZ, it was nice to relax and let someone else do the driving while enjoying the stunning scenery. The panoramic windows on the bus offered some incredible views. We had a few stops for pics and a bathroom break, and Tony was flexible with where we wanted to stop on the way back. The cruise itself was phenomenal. It gets cold and windy, so pack layers! It was a beautiful day, and I highly recommend taking the earlier cruise since it’s less crowded. The guide on the boat, Chelsea, was funny and informative. The food and coffee on the boat were great...better than some cafes we’d visited. Milford Sound is popular for a reason and totally worth doing.
