The zoo is very beautiful and not that big. So you can do everything in one day. A great experience despite the sweltering heat. The animals have beautiful, spacious enclosures. We had to take a lot of breaks, which is no problem as there are several catering facilities. The boat tour was also nice, not that long, which is nice. Great vegetation. Conclusion: A great zoo that I can really recommend.Veronika

This is my third time visiting Leipzig Zoo – first in August last year, then during the winter months, and now in July. I keep coming back because I absolutely love the tropical hall – it’s the perfect place to recharge. My favorite visit was in winter: almost no people, peaceful atmosphere, and even the big cats were out and visible instead of hiding from the summer heat. But the moment that really surprised me? Gorillas walking around with blankets over their heads! If you’re curious what I mean – go see for yourself ;) Yep, the cheetah was my absolute favourite! And... birds, who fly freely... and two fish friends. Yep, there is friendships under the water too ;) P.S. I highly recommend buying your ticket online – I skipped a super long line thanks to the app! A perfect time saver!Ralf

It was particularly nice to see the sea lions, elephants and in Pongoland. The encounters with giraffes and meerkats were also very nice.Matthias

The zoo is just great, everything is clean and easy to explore for everyone thanks to the very well-designed overview map provided. The live explanations of the zookeepers are helpful and good, we will be back. The Marche Restaurant is not to be recommended, completely exorbitant prices, poor quality, and the friendliness of the staff does not match the otherwise sooo hospitable Leipzig at all.

On this adventure, get up and close with nature and explore the six adventure worlds at Leipzig Zoo. In the Founder's Garden, Gondwanaland, Asia, Africa, Pongoland, and South America you will discover a fascinating animal world. The zoo is home to more than 850 animal species, including many rare and endangered species such as Amur leopards, Sumatran tigers, and western lowland gorillas. It is also famous for its large enclosures that mimic the animals' natural habitat as closely as possible.
A trip through Gondwanaland is like a journey to the jungles of Africa, Asia, and South America. Nearly 170 species of exotic animals and more than 500 plant species await you in this covered area, which, by the way, is larger than two soccer fields. Follow the winding jungle paths, the treetop trail as well as the mysterious jungle river to discover this fabulous tropical diversity.
In the world's only great ape facility, Pongoland, you can witness chimpanzees, bonobos, gorillas, and orangutans. The Leipzig Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology also conducts research here. In Pongoland, you can even become an explorer yourself at various discovery stations!
Just like in the wild, here giraffes, ostriches, zebras, and other animals live together in peace. There are several excellent vantage points from where you can observe these savannah dwellers. Right next door, you can visit the predator enclosures. Only a moat seems to separate the spotted hyenas from their prey here! In addition, you can also observe lions and cute meerkats here.
