Michigan Avenue Entrance (Main Entrance)
Located at 111 S. Michigan Avenue, this iconic entrance is easily recognized by the two bronze lion statues flanking the grand Beaux-Arts staircase. It is the primary access point for most visitors and leads directly into the historic building’s main lobby. The entrance is fully wheelchair accessible via ramps on either side of the staircase, and automatic doors are available. This entrance is closest to Millennium Park and is ideal for those arriving on foot or by public transit from the Loop.
Modern Wing Entrance (Monroe Street Entrance)
Situated at 159 E. Monroe Street, the Modern Wing entrance offers direct access to the museum’s contemporary galleries and is adjacent to Millennium Park’s Nichols Bridgeway. This entrance is fully accessible, with step-free access, elevators, and wide automatic doors. It’s especially convenient for visitors coming from the Millennium Park garage, the park itself, or the Monroe CTA stations. The Modern Wing entrance is also recommended for families with strollers or those seeking a quieter entry point.
Regular hours: Monday, Wednesday, Friday to Sunday: 11am to 5pm, Thursday: 11am to 8pm
Closed: Every Tuesday, as well as Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
Last entry: Final admission is 1 hour before closing time.
Special hours/closures: The museum may offer extended evening hours for select exhibitions or events. Check the official website for updates. Illinois residents enjoy free admission on select weekday evenings throughout the year (advance reservation required).
