Pro tips to help you make a pick

Visit on weekdays or arrive early in the morning for fewer crowds and better chances to see animals active, especially pandas and tropical species.

Allow at least 3–5 hours to explore the zoo, or a full day if combining with the Maokong Gondola and nearby attractions.

Check weather forecasts before booking, as most exhibits are outdoors and animal activity varies by season and temperature.

Public transport is recommended. Take the MRT Brown Line to Taipei Zoo Station for easy entry and to avoid parking queues on busy days.

Consider combo tickets with the Maokong Gondola if you plan to visit both attractions, as bundled tickets can offer better value and convenience.

Some indoor exhibits and animal houses have limited capacity, so expect short queues during peak hours—visiting earlier helps reduce waiting time.

Use the Taipei Zoo map or official website to plan your route, as the zoo is large and spread across multiple themed zones and levels.

Did you know?

Taipei Zoo is Taiwan’s largest zoo, spanning over 165 hectares, with a mix of outdoor habitats, indoor pavilions, and forested landscapes that make it one of Asia’s most spacious urban zoos.

The zoo is home to Taiwan’s only giant pandas, Tuan Tuan and Yuan Yuan, gifted by China in 2008, making the Giant Panda House one of its most popular attractions.

Taipei Zoo features a dedicated Formosan Animal Area showcasing Taiwan’s native wildlife, including Formosan black bears, pangolins, and clouded leopards.

The zoo is located next to the Maokong Gondola, allowing visitors to combine a wildlife visit with a scenic cable car ride to tea plantations and mountain viewpoints.

Founded in 1914 during Japanese rule, Taipei Zoo is one of Asia’s oldest zoos and has evolved into a leading center for wildlife conservation, research, and education in Taiwan.

Why visit Taipei Zoo?

Wildlife from around the world

Step into one of Asia’s largest city zoos and discover animals from every continent. From giant pandas and koalas to tropical birds and African wildlife, Taipei Zoo showcases diverse species in spacious, naturalistic habitats designed to mimic their native environments and promote conservation awareness.

Themed animal zones and habitats

Explore themed areas like the Giant Panda House, Tropical Rainforest Area, Desert Animal Area, African Animal Area, and the Formosan Animal Area dedicated to Taiwan’s native species. Each zone features immersive landscapes, educational displays, and indoor and outdoor viewing areas for year-round visits.

Family-friendly and educational experiences

Taipei Zoo combines wildlife encounters with interactive learning. Educational centers, guided tours, and informative exhibits help visitors understand animal behavior, conservation efforts, and biodiversity, making it an engaging experience for families, students, and nature lovers alike.

Scenic walking paths and outdoor attractions

Stroll through lush landscapes, lakes, and forested trails while spotting animals in open-air enclosures. The zoo’s spacious layout offers a relaxing day out with picnic areas, playgrounds, and scenic viewpoints, perfect for a full-day visit in nature within Taipei city.

Convenient location in Taipei

Located in the Muzha district, Taipei Zoo is easily accessible via the MRT Brown Line, buses, and taxis from central Taipei. It’s also close to popular attractions like the Maokong Gondola, making it easy to combine both experiences in a single day trip.

The entry was pretty smooth. To access the 89th floor observatory, one has to go to the 5th floor in the elevator and then enter the queue. There are many stores on the top selling souvenirs. The best ones are the colored seals opp to the souvenir shop. The view is best from 5pm to 8pm due to sunset transitioning to night lights. Don't miss it!

The visit was awesome although I am not sure I would book through a third party again within 2 hours of visit time and pay a booking fee. It was anxiety provoking not knowing if the confirmation is going to come through since it wasn't immediate.

We visited Taipei 101 Observatory and booked the 89th floor fast-track tickets through Headout. The fast-pass ended up being worth it. The lines were long going up the elevator, but especially coming back down, so skipping them saved us a lot of time. At the top, there are quite a few photo spots, including some more set-up areas if you want pictures. We loved the views overlooking Taipei and the damper and short videos explaining how it all works were super interesting. If you’re planning to visit, the fast-pass is worth considering if you want to avoid spending a lot of time in line. We're super happy we went!
