The whole trip is arranged very professionally- everything happens on time, from the hotel pickup to the island stops. The best part of the trip was Jackie and his whole team aboard LOMA 5. The catamaran itself is very smooth sailing and no one on board experienced any sea sickness whatsoever, not even my infant. The crew was very helpful for people who didn't know swimming yet wanted to snorkel. They took photos for everyone at Pileh lagoon. The whole atmosphere on the boat with the music, and jokes of the crew was very lively. And like Jackie said again and again - be happy dont think much , happy day by day !

It was a nice excursion, but it’s a shame that nothing was done to provide us with information in French... or even just a brief description. We missed out on some things because of the language barrier, and we were really disappointed that we didn’t get to see the little monkeys on the beach as planned! Remember to bring beach shoes and the kind for boats, drinks, etc. Otherwise, honestly, it was great

A heavenly day, with attentive and helpful crew. Thank you to the Yoyo Team! Unlimited water and cold soda on the boat throughout the excursion. Very good and varied lunch, although some dishes are very spicy, even for those with a high tolerance. Be careful with the Long Tail Boat option in Pi Leh Lagoon, however, as there are many other boats and people, which makes the place a little crowded and polluted. Bonus: the snorkeling spots offered are very nice.

The trip covers a lot of great spots. Provides enough time for snorkeling and swimming and is a great experience overall. The description should list though that after you arrive at the dock, there is still a waiting time before taking the speedboat. Linda and her team were amazing guide.

Nearby cities to explore

Most Phi Phi island hopping tours run 8 to 10 hours from Phuket, or 3 to 7 hours if you depart directly from Phi Phi Don. Tours cover between three and seven stops depending on the route, with Maya Bay and Pileh Lagoon on almost every itinerary.

Overview of Phi Phi island hopping tours

  • Boat types: Speedboat, standard catamaran, or premium speed catamaran from Phuket; private or shared longtail boat from Phi Phi Don.
  • Maya Bay: Currently a beach and photo stop only. Swimming is not permitted under conservation rules.
  • Inclusions: Lunch is included on most full-day Phuket and Krabi departures. Hotel transfers are included on most Phuket tours. Check whether National Park fees are listed separately on your chosen product.
  • From Phuket, Krabi, or Phi Phi: Tours leave from all three bases. Your choice affects transit time, route coverage, and whether hotel pickup is practical.
  • Price range: From €19 for a shared longtail half-day from Phi Phi to €76 for a premium catamaran full-day with sunset from Phuket.

Know before you book your Phi Phi island‑hopping tour

  • Step 1: Choose your base. Stay in Phuket or Krabi and book a full‑day speedboat or catamaran if you want hotel‑to‑hotel convenience; start on Phi Phi Don if you prefer shorter loops and less open‑sea crossing.
  • Step 2: Pick your route. Classic routes focus on Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon, Monkey Beach, and Phi Phi Don; “+ Bamboo” routes add a quieter snorkel island, and “+ Khai” routes add a shallow, family‑friendly beach stop.
  • Step 3: Choose your boat. Speedboats maximize stops in a day but feel bumpier; catamarans trade a slightly longer day for more stability and space; Phi Phi longtails offer flexible, shorter trips on simpler boats.
  • What’s usually included. All full‑day tours include lunch, snorkeling gear, life jackets, a guide, insurance, and at least water or soft drinks; hotel transfers are included from key areas on most Phuket and Krabi routes.
  • Extra costs to check. Some tours include National Park fees; others collect them in cash at the pier; check “What’s included” on your chosen tour, and bring some extra cash for park fees, snacks, and island purchases.
  • Maya Bay & route changes. Maya Bay appears on most full‑day routes but can close for conservation or be skipped in rough seas; swimming there is usually restricted to shallow wading, with main swim time at Pileh Lagoon or reef stops.
  • If you are pregnant, have serious back problems or need step‑free access, these tours are not recommended; consider staying on Phi Phi and choosing a shorter, calmer route or skipping boat tours.

Which Phi Phi island hopping tour is right for you

Half-day island hopping from Phi Phi Don

  • Best for: Travellers already staying on Phi Phi who want to see the headline spots in one outing without committing a full day.
  • Duration: 4–6 hours for shared longtail or speedboat tours; up to 8 hours for extended options.
  • Islands and stops: Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon, Monkey Beach, and Viking Cave, with optional reef stops like Loh Samah Bay or Shark Point on selected departures.
  • What the pace feels like: Compact and focused. You spend less time crossing open sea and more time looping around Phi Phi Leh, with one or two main swim/snorkel stops rather than a long list of islands.
  • Inclusions: Guide, boat (longtail or speedboat), snorkeling gear and life jacket, fresh fruits, drinking water, and insurance. National Park fees are included on the shared Phi Phi speedboat tour and paid separately on some longtail options.

Standard full‑day island hopping from Phuket or Krabi

  • Best for: First‑time visitors staying in Phuket or Krabi who want the classic Phi Phi highlights in one day, with a balance of boat time, swimming, and sightseeing.
  • Duration: 8.5–10.5 hours door‑to‑door, including hotel pickup, pier check‑in, the boat ride to Phi Phi, and the return.
  • Islands and stops: Phuket departures typically include Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon, Monkey Beach, Viking Cave, and Phi Phi Don; Krabi departures cover a similar circuit.
  • What the pace feels like: Active. Expect multiple short stops with set time windows at each place, a mix of in‑water sessions and photo stops, and a structured day that follows the guide’s schedule rather than a slow cruise.
  • Inclusions: Thai lunch (buffet or set menu) on Phi Phi Don or a nearby beach, onboard snacks, snorkeling gear and a life jacket, insurance, and an English‑ or Thai‑speaking guide; hotel transfers are included from selected areas in Phuket and Krabi, with one Phuket speedboat tour offering transfers as an optional add‑on.

Premium catamaran tours from Phuket

  • Best for: Travelers who want the full Phi Phi route with more comfort: more deck space, shaded seating, onboard toilets, and extras like kayaking or paddleboarding.
  • Duration: Around 10 hours, typically starting with a 7am hotel pickup and ending back at the pier around early evening.
  • Islands and stops: Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon, Monkey Beach, Viking Cave, Phi Phi Don, and Bamboo Island, with selected sunset tours also cruising near Maiton Island on the way back.
  • What the pace feels like: Full‑day and activity‑rich, but more comfortable than a standard speedboat: you get more room to move around, a smoother ride on open water, and longer cruising segments between swim stops.
  • Inclusions: Buffet lunch, snacks, fresh fruit, coffee and soft drinks, snorkeling gear, life jackets, and water‑activity extras such as kayaking or paddleboarding; National Park fees, insurance, and hotel transfers from key Phuket areas are included.

Private tours from Phi Phi Don

  • Best for: Families, small groups, or repeat visitors who want their own boat, flexible timing, and control over which Phi Phi stops to prioritize.
  • Duration: 3, 4, 6, or 7 hours, with morning and afternoon departures you can match to your plans or daylight preferences.
  • Islands and stops: Maya Bay, Monkey Beach, Viking Cave, and Pileh Lagoon as the core loop, with optional add‑ons like Loh Samah Bay, Shark Point, Bamboo Island, or Nui Beach if you choose a longer slot.
  • What the pace feels like: Fully flexible. You can keep the loop short and focused or slow the day down with more snorkeling, extra time at a favorite lagoon, or quieter beach stops away from the main circuit.
  • Inclusions: Private longtail boat, guide, snorkeling gear, life jackets, fresh fruits, drinking water, and insurance; any National Park fees or island landing charges are clearly mentioned on the tour page and may be collected separately in cash.

Staying in Krabi or Ao Nang?

Two full-day speedboat tours depart directly from Krabi, covering Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon, Viking Cave, and Bamboo Island with hotel transfers from Ao Nang, Krabi Town, Klong Muang, and Tubkaek. One runs as a daytime tour; the other extends into the evening with a sunset finish near the Krabi 4 Islands and a chance of seeing bioluminescent plankton. Both are among the highest-reviewed tours in this collection.

Your Phi Phi island tour starting points

  • Best for: Full‑day speedboat and premium catamaran tours that pack the classic Phi Phi highlights into one day, with hotel pickup and drop‑off included.
  • Where you start: Most tours in this collection depart from marinas near Phuket Town, commonly Royal Phuket Marina or Boat Lagoon Pier; the exact pier is confirmed on your voucher.
  • Getting there: Hotel transfers are included from key areas like Patong, Kata, Karon, Kalim, Koh Siray, Boat Lagoon, and Phuket Town on most tours; one speedboat option offers transfers as an add‑on instead of including them by default.
  • What to expect: You’ll spend longer on the boat getting to and from Phi Phi than guests who start on Phi Phi Don, but you gain a full‑day experience with more route options, onboard facilities, and a simple “hotel‑to‑hotel” flow.

Phi Phi island by island — what each stop is like

Maya Bay

Maya Bay is the cove from The Beach, with a white‑sand arc backed by steep limestone cliffs. Tours in this collection treat it as a short, timed stop for walking the beach and taking photos rather than a long swim.

Access: Included on all full‑day tours from Phuket and Krabi listed here and on the Phi Phi–based longtail, speedboat, and private tours; operators may adjust access if conservation rules or sea conditions change on the day.

Pileh Lagoon

Pileh Lagoon is a sheltered, emerald‑green inlet where boats anchor so you can get into the water directly from the boat. It’s usually the main in‑water stop of the day, with time to swim, float in a life jacket, or just sit on deck and enjoy the cliffs around you.

Access: Included on all full‑day routes from Phuket and Krabi in this collection and on every Phi Phi‑based tour listed, whether you choose a longtail, shared speedboat, or a private longtail.

Phi Phi Don

Phi Phi Don is the only inhabited island in the group, with the main pier, village, and a strip of cafes and shops. Full‑day tours typically stop here for a buffet or restaurant lunch and a short break on the beach before you continue to the lagoons or outer islands.

Access: Included on all Phuket full‑day tours and both Krabi full‑day tours in this collection; some Phi Phi–based tours use it mainly as your starting point rather than a separate stop.

Monkey Beach

Monkey Beach is a small bay where macaques are often seen close to the shoreline. Most tours include a brief visit here for photos and wildlife watching, either from the sand or from the boat, with guides reminding you not to feed or touch the animals.

Access:** Included on all full‑day tours from Phuket and Krabi listed here and on the Phi Phi–based longtail, speedboat, and private tours; usually a short stop rather than extended beach time.

Bamboo Island

Bamboo Island is a low, sandy island with clear, shallow water and better snorkeling visibility than some of the busier core stops. Tours that include Bamboo usually spend a little longer here so you can swim, snorkel over coral patches, or just walk along the wide beach.

Access: Included on the Phuket speedboat + Bamboo tour, the Phuket premium sunset catamaran, the Phuket catamaran day tour, and both Krabi full‑day tours in this collection, as well as selected Phi Phi–based speedboat and private longtail routes.

Viking Cave

Viking Cave is a cliff-side cave known for its bird's-nest harvesting and wall markings, viewed from the boat rather than from land. Boats usually slow down near the entrance while the guide explains the history and you take photos from the deck.

Access: Included as a sightseeing pass‑by on all full‑day routes from Phuket and Krabi in this collection and on the Phi Phi‑based longtail, speedboat, and private tours; rarely a landing stop.

Khai Island

Khai Island (and its nearby islets) offers very shallow, easy‑entry water and a livelier, more built‑up beach scene, with simple stalls and plenty of sand underfoot. It’s often used as a final swim and relax stop after the main Phi Phi circuit, especially for families and casual swimmers.

Access: Included on the Phuket speedboat tour that names Khai Island in its title; not all Bamboo‑focused or Krabi routes visit Khai, so look for “Khai” in the product name if this stop matters to you.

Loh Samah Bay and reef snorkel spots

Loh Samah Bay and other nearby reef points are used as dedicated snorkeling stops on some Phi Phi–based tours, with boat‑entry snorkeling and deeper water than the beach stops. Conditions vary by day, but these stops tend to suit confident swimmers or non‑swimmers happy to float in a life jacket away from shore.

Access: Included on the Phi Phi–based speedboat tour and on selected longtail and private routes that list “Shark Point,” “Loh Samah Bay,” or “reef snorkel” in their descriptions.

Maiton Island (sunset routes)

Maiton Island appears on the premium sunset catamaran route as a late‑day cruising or spotting stop. You’ll typically stay on the boat here, watching the coastline and, with some luck, looking out for wildlife while the sun sets on the way back to Phuket.

Access: Included only on the Phuket sunset premium catamaran tour in this collection; standard speedboat and non‑sunset catamaran routes do not visit Maiton.

Different types of boats

Speedboats

  • What they’re like: Fast, small to mid‑size boats with bench seating, a covered area and limited deck space.
  • Pros: Shorter crossing times, easier to fit multiple stops into one day from Phuket or Krabi.
  • Cons: The ride can feel bumpy, especially in choppy seas; space is tighter than on catamarans, and moving around during the ride is limited.

Premium catamarans

  • What they’re like: Larger, more stable boats with more deck space, shaded seating, toilets and easier movement on board.
  • Pros: Smoother ride in typical sea conditions, more space to sit or stand, and more onboard amenities (buffet meals, snacks, drinks, sometimes kayaking or paddleboarding).
  • Cons: Slightly longer overall day; some departures carry more passengers than a small speedboat.

Longtail boats (from Phi Phi)

  • What they’re like: Traditional open‑air wooden boats with simple seating, shade from a canopy and very easy water access.
  • Pros: Great for short loops around Phi Phi Leh, closer‑to‑water views and flexible stop lengths, especially on private charters.
  • Cons: More exposed to sun and spray, basic facilities, and not designed for long open‑sea crossings to/from Phuket or Krabi.

Plan your Phi Phi island hopping tour

How long does a tour take?

  • From Phuket: Full‑day speedboat and catamaran tours run about 9–10 hours door‑to‑door, including hotel pickup, pier check‑in, the crossing to Phi Phi and the return.
  • From Krabi & Ao Nang: Full‑day tours run about 8.5–9 hours, typically 8am–4:30pm.
  • From Phi Phi Don: Shared longtail and speedboat tours range from 4–6 hours for half‑day loops to around 8 hours for extended routes.

When do tours usually start?

  • Phuket & Krabi: Hotel pickups often begin around 7am; boats usually leave the pier between 8am and 9am, depending on the route.
  • Phi Phi Don: Morning and afternoon slots are common; exact start times are listed on each tour.

Best time of year to go

  • November to April: Generally the calmest seas and clearest conditions; this is the main high season.
  • May to October: Seas can be rougher and visibility lower, and routes may change more often because of weather; some days may be cancelled or shortened at short notice.

Maya Bay closures and timing

  • Maya Bay typically closes for conservation in August and September. If you are visiting during this period, confirm with the operator before booking.
  • Even when open, time on the beach is strictly controlled, and visits are usually short and timed by the ranger rules, not by the operator.

Frequently asked questions about Phi Phi island hopping tours

  • Most full‑day tours from Phuket and Krabi in this collection include Maya Bay, and all Phi Phi–based tours loop close to it.

However, park rules, tides, and weather can mean that Maya Bay is skipped or replaced on the day, so it’s never guaranteed for every departure. Check the “route” section of your chosen tour for the latest plan and any seasonal closure notes.

  • Right now, Maya Bay is treated as a protected area. You can usually walk on the beach and wade in the very shallow water, but full swimming and snorkeling in the bay itself are not allowed.

Most tours shift their main in‑water time to Pileh Lagoon or nearby snorkel spots, where you can swim and snorkel with a life jacket instead.

  • If you’re staying in Phuket, the premium catamaran and extended speedboat routes tend to cover the most stops in a single day. These usually include Maya Bay, Pileh Lagoon, Monkey Beach, Viking Cave, Phi Phi Don and at least one extra island like Bamboo or Maiton.

From Krabi, the “Phi Phi + Bamboo” and “Phi Phi + 4 Islands sunset” routes give you a similar “maximum coverage” feel, combining Phi Phi’s core stops with either Bamboo or the Krabi 4 Islands area.

  • Bamboo Island is better if snorkeling and clearer water matter to you. It’s quieter, with wider beaches and reef patches that often offer stronger snorkeling conditions than more built-up beaches.

Khai Island is better if you mainly want shallow, easy‑entry water and a simple, lively beach stop. It’s more developed, which suits families and casual swimmers, but the snorkeling is usually less impressive than at Bamboo or dedicated reef stops.

  • Speedboats are fast and compact, good for fitting many stops into a day from Phuket or Krabi, but rides can feel bumpy and space is tighter.

Catamarans are larger and more stable, with more shade, deck space, and facilities, plus extras like buffet meals or water sports on some routes.

Longtail boats are traditional open‑air boats used from Phi Phi Don; they’re great for shorter loops and flexible stops, but more exposed and basic, so they’re not used for long crossings from the mainland.

  • No, but it changes how you use the stops. All tours provide life jackets, and you can choose to float with a jacket near the boat or stay on board while others swim.

If you’re a non‑swimmer or nervous swimmer, look for tours that emphasize shallow beach stops like Bamboo or Khai, and avoid routes that lean heavily on deep‑water reef snorkel stops as their main "activity."

  • Many tours allow children and older guests, but suitability depends on the boat and any health considerations. Speedboats and longtails involve steps, waves, and boat‑to‑water transfers that can be hard for very young kids, older guests with balance issues, or anyone with back or neck problems.

Premium catamaran routes and shorter Phi Phi–based tours are generally more comfortable, with more stable decks and shade, but they still require climbing aboard and moving around a boat. Always check the age limits and health advisories on the specific tour page before booking.

  • On some tours, especially premium options, National Park fees are already included in the price and listed under “What’s included."

On others, the fee is paid separately in cash at the pier on the day of your tour. Always check the inclusions section for your chosen tour so you know whether to bring extra cash for park fees.

  • It depends on the sea conditions and your sensitivity. The crossing between the mainland and Phi Phi can be choppy, especially in the May–October months.

If you’re prone to motion sickness, choose a catamaran or a Phi Phi–based tour over a long open‑sea speedboat ride where possible, sit near the back of the boat, avoid heavy meals before departure, and bring motion sickness tablets if needed.

  • Yes. Operators may adjust the order of stops or skip certain islands because of tides, sea conditions, conservation rules or crowd limits, especially at Maya Bay.

The aim is to keep the day safe and as close to the advertised route as possible, but final decisions are taken by the captain and park authorities on the day. If conditions force a full cancellation, you’ll be contacted with options to reschedule or receive a refund according to your tour’s policy.
