In Kuala Lumpur, I used this method to tour the city, getting off and exploring as I pleased. In the hot and crowded city, this is currently the most effective way to sightsee. The only downside was the old and dilapidated vehicle, and the commentary was broadcast in local English through a loudspeaker, which was noisy for those in the front and completely inaudible for those in the back, making it uncomfortable. Twenty years ago, I traveled in Barcelona using the same method; they already offered commentary in different languages and provided audio through headphones. However, compared to local prices, this service in Malaysia was not cheap, yet the service itself was lacking.

I was in 3 buses, one with little sxolanation of each place, other with more explanation but in a very difficult English and the last has a recording of English citizens talking about the places, really interesting and nice. The Hop On Hop Off bus concept is a good one, but in KL I had these observations: 1. Tickets were a little pricey; 2. Wifi availability was hit and miss; 3. Our drivers sometimes stayed too long at a stop (usually to have a smoke), so the routes took longer than they needed to; and 4. The traffic jams in some sections of the route (eg - near stop 1) were horrendous.

We had a tour in the afternoon and the following morning. The afternoon (green route) was really good with excellent commentary as we went along. In the morning we got the 1st 9am bus (red route) from the start and there was no commentary at all (only stops announced) and we stopped for 15mins at the arts centre with staff blaming the "traffic"
