Definitely get the pre purchased tickets if you don't plan on arriving early. Saved us about 90 minutes of waiting time with the crowd. The Castle itself is a museum, great history and fantastic views of Osaka. I side can get cramped at peak hours so keep hold of the little ones. Seek the second set of stairs on the exterior side of the tower rather than the middle to avoid the crowds. Gift store in level 8 is better than the one on level 2/3 in my opinion. Level 6 in the Castle is just a walkway not open to the public. Level 3 and 4 has fantastic Edi era relics; as such they request no photography. Many tourists were offensive in not respecting this request. Overall, a simple but necessary must do if you are in Osaka.

It was a beautiful, fascinating and immersive experience, the immense gardens and the castle itself are something to take one's breath away, I recommend purchasing tickets online as I did, this allowed me to skip a long line to purchase tickets on site. The museum inside the castle is very well maintained and the view from the top floor terrace is wonderful. All this despite the fact that there was a fair amount of crowds as the visit itself allows for a constant and dynamic flow inside the castle. I highly recommend visiting the entire complex and if you are lucky at the dojo you might witness something really interesting.

Osaka Castle is one of the most iconic symbols of Japan. Surrounded by a large park and imposing stone walls, it offers a magnificent view of the city and a journey into the history of the feudal period. Carefully rebuilt after various destructions, it now houses a modern museum chronicling the life of feudal lord Toyotomi Hideyoshi and the battles that marked the unification of Japan. At night, the lighting makes its silhouette even more striking, while in spring the cherry blossom trees enhance its beauty. A must-see for anyone visiting Osaka, where tradition and modernity blend harmoniously. Very beautiful experience

Visiting Osaka Castle was more than a sightseeing stop — it was an immersion into Japan’s resilience and beauty. Each level of the tower unfolds a story: samurai honor, war, restoration, and rebirth. The structure may be a reconstruction, but the spirit is very real. From the top, the city glows — a seamless blend of history and progress. The view reminds you how far Osaka has come, yet how its roots still hold strong. I left feeling grateful, reflective, and inspired by how gracefully Japan holds its past while walking boldly into the future. Osaka Castle exceeded every expectation — not because of grand displays, but because of its atmosphere. The grounds are wide and tranquil, filled with the harmony of nature and legacy. Inside, the museum is well-curated, and the climb to the top leads to a panoramic view that steals your breath.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Osaka Castle. It has the best Yakatori chicken food truck... as well as rainbow snow cones which were a delightful stop along the way up the hill. My daughter wanted to go all the way back to the Castle just for the chicken. The history was very interesting to learn about and the view from the top of the Castle was beautiful. I highly recommend purchasing your tickets online to avoid the que. The street performers were an added bonus too!

It was a good experience, the castle is very beautiful. The organization for the visit is very good. We used the elevator and later went down the stairs enjoying all the pictures on the floors. The time we waited to start the visit was short.
  • Taking inspiration from the Taisho period, this attraction is an important historical heritage site, built in Ancient Japan. Explore Osaka Castle’s historical grounds at your own time and pace. This experience is one that shouldn’t be missed while in Osaka. In 1583, Hideyoshi Toyotomi began trying to build the Osaka Castle on the site of Ishiyama Hongaji, which was suitable to inhabit a ruler.

After the death of Hideyoshi’s death, the regime moved to the Tokugawa family and the Osaka Castle fell in 1615 at Osaka Natsunokin. This heritage site was then rebuilt under the order of the second Shogun Hidetada Tokugawa, which took around 10 years. This site played a major role as the base of the Western government for the Shogun. Featuring a spectacular light-up and Japanese historical treasures, this Osaka Castle illumination displays over 3 million colorful LED lights on a 300cm long picture scroll. Don’t miss this 430-year-old edifice in Osaka.
