Enjoy a 60-minute immersive journey through Mozart’s world, where music, light, and technology bring his genius to life in the very building where he composed The Magic Flute.
Getting started
Your visit begins at Kärntner Straße 19, beneath the Steffl Department Store, just steps away from the State Opera and St. Stephen’s Cathedral. Start your journey with a playful twist as your photo transforms into a classical Mozart-era portrait.
Requiem: Mozart’s Farewell
Your journey opens in near-darkness. The space glows with the light of 1,500 LED candles, symbolizing both life and remembrance. The soundscape of Requiem in D minor envelops you as fragments of the unfinished score drift through the air, evoking the mystery of Mozart’s final days.
Vienna 1791: Mozart’s City
Step into a 360° panoramic projection of late-18th-century Vienna, where bustling streets, horse-drawn carriages, and grand concert halls capture Mozart’s final year. Here, music, visuals, and storytelling merge to reveal the city that shaped his work and the man who transformed its sound forever.
World Music: A Little Night Music
In this interactive room, you become part of Mozart’s orchestra. Pick up virtual instruments from around the world to accompany Eine Kleine Nachtmusik. The installation celebrates Mozart’s universal reach, showing how his music continues to resonate far beyond the borders of his time.
Genius: Mozart Composing
Enter the mind of a composer. Light, motion, and music intertwine in a visual symphony representing the synaptic sparks of Mozart’s imagination. Each flicker of light mirrors inspiration in motion, turning composition into a living, luminous experience.
The Magic Flute: Mozart Forever
The finale, designed by new-media artist Refik Anadol, transforms Mozart’s music into moving AI-generated art. Using data from his scores and letters, the installation creates a mesmerizing digital landscape, a vision of Mozart’s creativity that transcends centuries.
