  • Sail Milford Sound your way. Choose from three distinct vessels designed for every kind of traveler.

    Getting started

Check in at the Milford Sound Visitor Terminal before boarding your chosen vessel. After a short safety briefing, head to your preferred space, whether that’s a rooftop beer garden, an expansive open deck, or the comfort of panoramic indoor lounges.

    What to expect

Experience New Zealand’s iconic fiord on the fleet’s largest vessels, designed for comfort and panoramic views. These cruises connect you with the dramatic scenery and natural wonders of Fiordland, guided by onboard experts.

    Vessel options
    • Haven, social & relaxed: Rooftop beer garden seating with drinks available; perfect for travelers wanting a lively, casual atmosphere.

    • Mariner, adventurous & open-air: New Zealand’s largest open deck gives photographers and explorers spray-close views of waterfalls and cliffs.

    • Sovereign/Monarch, comfortable & group-friendly: Luxury indoor lounges and booth seating with panoramic windows, ideal for families or groups who want comfort without missing the scenery.

    Features
    • Comfort in any weather: Move easily between spacious lounges and open decks, so you never miss the views, whether it’s sunshine or mist.

    • Cruise your way: Pick a vessel that reflects your mood, social rooftop drinks, spray-close deck adventure, or relaxed indoor comfort.

    • Stories behind the scenery: Onboard nature guides bring Fiordland’s geology, wildlife, and history to life, adding meaning to every sight.

    • Flexible and worry-free: Multiple departures daily mean you can fit Milford into your plans without rushing or compromising.

    • Better in the rain: Wet weather creates even more waterfalls, turning your cruise into a rare, dramatic version of Milford that few get to see.

  • What to bring

    • Bring layered waterproof clothing, a warm layer, sunscreen, and a sunhat, as weather in Fiordland is highly unpredictable and rain is common.

    • Pack snacks, water, and travel entertainment for children, especially if self-driving or traveling with kids.

    • Bring any required medications and essentials, as onboard purchases are limited and meals/drinks are not included in your ticket.

    • If traveling with infants or young children, bring your own car seat if using coach transfers, as car seats are not provided.

    What’s not allowed

    • Large suitcases and oversized luggage are not permitted onboard due to limited storage space.

    • Pets are not allowed, except for registered service animals.

    • Alcohol, drugs, and any form of intoxication are strictly prohibited on the vessels.

    • Smoking, including e-cigarettes, is not permitted anywhere onboard.

    • Flash photography, tripods, and filming equipment are not allowed without prior permission.

    Accessibility

    • The cruise is not fully wheelchair accessible. All vessels require crossing a sea sill, and steep or narrow stairs may be present; electric wheelchairs cannot be accommodated.

    • Wheelchair users may be confined to certain areas with limited turning space, and some vessels are not recommended for wheelchair users at all.

    • Fully accessible bathrooms are not available onboard; accessible restroom facilities are only available at the Milford Sound terminal.

    • Guests with mobility concerns should contact the operator in advance to discuss specific needs.

    Additional information

    • Cruises generally operate in most weather conditions; very strong winds may result in cancellations. Rain enhances the waterfall experience.

    • Supervise children at all times, especially around steps and railings.

    • Wildlife sightings are not guaranteed, as animals are wild and unpredictable.

    • Meals and drinks are not included but may be available for purchase onboard or as pre-purchased options, depending on the vessel.

    • Self-drive from Queenstown takes approximately 5–6 hours one way; from Te Anau, about 3 hours. Coach transfers are available with limited luggage space and selected pickup points.

    • Be aware of natural hazards in Fiordland (earthquakes, landslides, avalanches, flooding, and potential localized tsunamis) that may impact roads and cruise operations.

    • A standard 24-hour cancellation policy applies for direct bookings.

    • Your voucher will be emailed to you shortly.

    • Display the voucher on your mobile phone with a valid photo ID at the starting point.

    • Please check your final voucher for the starting point details & specific instructions.
