Learn What’s Special About The Museum
The Family Mitsui House Museum located south of the famous Shimogamo Jinja Shrine is a largely hidden gem in Kyoto. The villa is touted as the birthplace of the powerful Mitsui family since the founder of the esteemed Mitsui conglomerate, Takatoshi Mitsui was born here in 1622.
The structure is a fine example of a Classical Japanese style residential building, thus making it a worthwhile tourist attraction. Furthermore, the museum’s architecture combines the exceptional style of the late 19th-century Meiji period and the subsequent Taisho period of the mid-1920s. One of the first things to catch your eye as you enter the building is the shoin-zukuri style design adorning its grand entrance.
Continue Your Tour with Matcha Green Tea Tasting and Garden Experience

Once done, head over to the garden and bask in the colorful seasonal plants and flowers that add to its beauty. The impeccable scenery of the stone lanterns, stepping stones, large rocks, artificial hills, and a nearby flowing river can be best described as tranquility personified. You can spend as much time as you like here before bringing your tour to an end.
