We had a fantastic time. Our son plays in the high school jazz band and really enjoyed listening to the live music. The food was great at lunch, especially the bread pudding (5 stars itself)! I could have sat and listened to the paddle wheel for the whole trip it was so relaxing. Aside from the rain it was a perfect steamboat cruise.

What an exciting and informative river cruise. Good was excellent and the staff was very pleasant and fun to talk to. Such happy people. The cruise ship was exceptionally clean. Our party was very pleased with the experience.

Great time on the water. They were quick to get so many people on the boat and very efficient and orgainzed serving the Creole-style brunch. The food was delicious. We then headed up to the top deck and enjoyed the sites going down, then back up the Mississippi River. The tour guide was engaging and informative, pointing out ships, the Domino Sugar Factory and the Battle of New Orleans Battlefield, among other points of interest. The Jazz music was nice, but we really just enjoyed sitting and watching the sites on and off the river--a very pleasant trip!

The lunch was tasty and hot (I hate food served cold). The tour narrator over the loud-speaker was clear and understandable. There was plenty of seating for all, and the upper deck was open, but a canvas covering protected from the sun. However, we found a table and chairs at the rear of the boat, with a good view and out of the wind. The Jazz Band was great, but didn't play as long as I would have liked. The attached pic gives you and idea of the view from where we sat.

We enjoyed everything about our cruise aboard The City of New Orleans. The food was delicious and served promptly and cordially. After the meal, we imbibed a couple of cocktails while taking in the sights on deck. We even got to do a little dancing on the 3rd deck along to the music of the live band. It was a most enjoyable experience, and we would recommend it to anyone looking to immerse themselves in the spirit and culture of New Orleans.

A food option for children is needed. We had to pay both for a cajun lunch kids wouldn't eat and snack bar hot dogs/hamburgers.

What to bring

Shirts and shoes are required for all cruises. Casual attire is perfectly fine, but for the Dinner Jazz Cruise, we suggest dressing “dressy casual.” Consider swapping jeans for dress pants, a skirt, or a blouse. Men can elevate their look with a collared shirt—either button-down or polo.

Additional Information

Until March 2026, either the Steamboat NATCHEZ or Riverboat CITY of NEW ORLEANS may host your cruise, depending on operational schedules and private charter arrangements. Either way, this two-hour cruise includes live jazz, craft drinks, and views of New Orleans best seen from the top deck.

Boarding begins at least 30 minutes before departure. We recommend arriving early to ensure a smooth start to your cruise.

Guests aged 21 and over may purchase beer, wine, and specialty cocktails from the onboard bar with a valid photo ID showing date of birth, in accordance with Louisiana law.
