Basilica bellissima merita davvero! Piu' che una visita è un' esperienza interiore che ti fa sentire davvero la spiritualità del luogo. Pero' abbiamo dovuto faticare per visitarla! Il giornonorima avevamo prenotato biglietti online con accesso riservato per le 10.30, invece siamo arrivati li' e c' era tantissima gente. Quando ho fatto presente agli addetti che avevo i biglietti accesso riservato, mi hanno risposto che non valevano perché avevano unito le file quindi tutti in attesa indipendentemente dall' aver pagato di piu' per accesso riservato! Fortunatamente siamo andati all' ufficio in cui avevamo ritirato i biglietti e sono stati gentilissimi: ci hanno cambiato il giorno e l' ora e alla fine abbiamo potuto visitare la Basilica.

Der Eintritt in den Petersdom ist kostenlos-die Warteschlange endlos. Vor Ort wurde "Skip the Line" um 25 Euro je Ticket (auch für Kinder) angeboten. Hab dann gegoogelt und Headout gefunden - für mich und meine beiden Kinder hab ich dann 42 Euro bezahlt (statt 75 Euro). Bzw 0 Euro. Die Dame war ein bisserl schwer zu finden-sie trug eine rote Jacke aber mit einem anderen Logo. Treffpunkt für Abholung der Online Tickets (kleiner Widerspruch) war 5 Gehminuten entfernt. Wir mussten kurz warten-in der Zwischenzeit gab es eine sehr nette, ausführliche Erklärung welche Warteschlange usw. und ein kurzes Gespräch. Der Zutritt (wieder 5 min retour zum Petersplatz) dauerte inkl. Sicherheitskontrolle weniger als 15 Minuten.

The entry queues even for people with pre-paid short queue tickets were poorly organised with no signs and ended up being long queues. In the queue we were treated a bit like cattle being quashed and herded together and it was a very unfortable experience. Even when we eventually arrived at the entrance we still had another long wait to get through security. Eventually we arrived inside St Peters after 2 hours of queuing. I bought short queue tickets so that my 82 year old grandmother with me would not have to stand for a long time in the queue. In the end it was all a big con. with these on-line short queue ticket sales.

Je pensais gagner du temps en prenant ce type de billet; or, avec ou sans guide, nous aurions passé le même temps dans la file d'attente (le guide n'avait absolument aucun moyen de nous faire gagner du temps) et nous avons payé 10 euros de plus l'entrée au Dôme pour aucun avantage supplémentaire par rapport à quelqu'un qui fait la queue normalement et prend ses billets à l'entrée du Dôme... avec ou sans ascenseur puisque cette option est choisie sur place aussi De plus, notre guide ne donnait pas d'information pertinente mais passait son temps à interpeler tous les touristes autour de nous (hors de notre groupe), les invectivant parfois...

I assumed it was the original website of the basilica, it was very time consuming, telling you to go and meet one person at a certain destination, noone there, calling them, and getting cut off. Then telling you, you dont have to meet anyone. Rome is hard going with lots of walking, we were sent to four different places, just to be told, after a second phone call , it was actually, at the first place we were at originally. Very stressfull and unnecessary. Once inside, it is stunning and beautiful

The visit was absolutely perfect! The best part was the complete lack of queues at the entrance. We just showed the tickets on our phone and walked right in, saving a lot of time and stress. Abbiamo fatto una fila di circa mezz'ora, utilizzando l'ingresso prioritario alla Basilica, ma ne è valsa la pena aver acquistato il biglietto, diversamente ci avremmo impiegato diverse ore. Abbiamo apprezzato le spiegazioni dell'audioguida, rendendo la visita più interessante e facendo apprezzare i punti più importanti e salienti.

O que valeu mesmo foram os museus vaticanos com o audioguia, mas esse negócio de fazer compra online pra fazer um voucher que não vale como ingresso, e ter que se deslocar até um local para imprimir o bilhete é burocrático, redundante e demanda trabalho e perda de tempo

What to bring

For Reserved Entry or Dome variants: Make sure you’ve received your QR codes for both entry and audio guide activation (check spam or retrieve them online if needed).

What’s not allowed

Large bags, luggage, or suitcases. Only small backpacks or personal bags allowed (no cloakroom on-site).

Food, drinks, smoking, and pets.

Infants and animals are not permitted.

Flash photography, tripods, and filming gear. (Non-flash photography is allowed.)

Accessibility

The Dome involves a steep climb of up to 551 steps and isn’t recommended for infants, pregnant visitors, or those with mobility issues, heart conditions, claustrophobia, or vertigo.

Not wheelchair accessible.

All visitors must pass airport-style security.

Additional information

There are two queues at the main entrance — a free entry queue and a reserved entry queue. Only if you've selected the reserved entry option at checkout are you eligible to skip the free entry line.

During peak hours, brief waits may still occur due to mandatory security checks, even for guests with skip-the-line access.

Modest dress is required: no shorts, mini skirts, or sleeveless tops.

If you’ve reserved entry, arrive at least 45 minutes early to clear security—especially during busy times.

The audio guide is smartphone-only; bring earphones and ensure your device is charged.

Minimum age: 6 years. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

This experience is non-refundable.

Closures & exceptions

Papal Tombs are not accessible for 6pm entries—only the Basilica will be open.

The Basilica and/or Dome may close without notice due to religious ceremonies. If access is restricted, alternatives will be provided.

Special access from the Sistine Chapel to the Basilica is unavailable on Wednesdays and during major celebrations like Easter.
