The National Palace of Sintra is very varied and unique, with specifically moorish elements and characteristic rooms. All the more surprising that it is much less frequented than the more popular National Palace of Pena, which is more spectacular from the outside due to colorful makeup and location, but much less interesting from the inside!

Die Ausstattung im Gebäude war bis auf einen Raum recht sperrlich. Da gibt es in Portugal wesentlich bessere Besichtigungsobjekte. Aus meiner Sicht war es das Geld nicht wert.

The palace was not overcrowded. Easy to get in Downloaded the guide which was not altogether self explanatory. A lot of the palace was being renovated which restricted where we could go! Needed to be told that before we went in.

This was a highlight to our Sintra trip. The KITCHEN! That's all I am going to say. 😍

Grab these tickets to the National Palace of Sintra so you can explore over 1,000 years of Portuguese history. The palace is immediately discernible by its two conical chimneys - a characteristic trait of Sintra itself. With its richly decorated rooms, galleries and corridors, it was a favorite for a succession of Portuguese royal families and their retinues, right until the end of the monarchy in 1910.

Spend your time marveling at how the natural landscape was used to merge Manueline, Gothic, and Mudejar designs. The windows with surmounted arches and walls covered in glazed tiles of geometric patterns are a testament to medieval brushwork and craftsmanship.

What to bring

Carry plenty of water, a hat, and sunglasses if you're visiting in the summer.

Bring your camera along to capture images of the palace's interiors and gardens.
