Very nice exhibition, dutch maritime evolution, colonialism as well as japanise theme. Amazing replireplica of the Amsterdam ship, very worth to see and explore.

Head straight to the National Maritime Museum’s main entrance and present your ticket to skip the lines. There are no timed slots, so you can arrive any time during opening hours. After a quick ticket scan, collect your audio guide and begin exploring at your own pace.

National Maritime Museum

Housed in a 17th-century naval storehouse, the National Maritime Museum offers a deep dive into the Netherlands’ seafaring legacy. With one of the world’s largest maritime collections, the museum brings to life the Dutch Golden Age and centuries of naval innovation through immersive exhibits and rare artifacts.

VOC Ship Replica: Step aboard the Amsterdam, a full-scale replica of an 18th-century Dutch East India Company ship, and explore its decks and cargo holds.

Royal Barge: Admire the ornately decorated Royal Barge, once used by the Dutch monarchy for ceremonial events on water.

Steamship Christiaan Brunings: Don’t miss this historic 1900s icebreaker moored outside, a lesser-known gem in the museum’s collection.

Interactive exhibits: Shadows on the Atlantic & Republic at Sea explore the impact of Dutch trade and naval power on global history through maps, ship models, and firsthand accounts.

Solebay Tapestries & navigational instruments: View rare maritime art and tools that guided sailors across the world’s oceans.

Movie Room: Transport yourself to the 17th-century port of Amsterdam, see Dutch East India Company ships sail past, and learn about VOC and life onboard the ships.

What’s not allowed

Food and drinks are not allowed inside the exhibition, but you are welcome to eat in the open courtyard, the jetty, and the pontoon.

Bags larger than A4 size are not allowed on this experience.

Flash photography, artificial lighting, selfie sticks, and tripods are not permitted inside the venue.

Due to venue restrictions, pets cannot tag along for this experience.

Accessibility

This experience is wheelchair and pram/stroller accessible.

The East Indiaman Amsterdam is partially wheelchair accessible.

Carer tickets accompanying visitors with disabilities are free of charge.

Your guide dogs are welcome at the venue.

Additional information

Children under the age of 12 can avail of free entry to the museum.

By Metro

The museum is around 20 minutes from Central Station by foot.

Follow Prins Hendrikkade east and you’ll see the docked replica ship ‘Amsterdam’, on your left and Kattenburgerplein 1

By Bus

The nearest bus stop is Kattenburgerplein, located 2 minutes away from the museum
