The backdrop of Sydney's skylie, with the Harbour Bridge and Opera House to the right, should be judged as one of the most spectacluar settings for an opera in the world. Add to that the fireworks [which compliment the story] the pyrotechniques [which have improved since the last performance, I witnessed here, in 2022], the moving features [such as the giant chandelier], the extravagant staircase, the mock opera boxes, and the overall setting for the performance, including a smoky, fire-lit canalway, emulating the underground lake connecting the opera house to the Ghost's lair [as decribed in the original Gaston Laroux's book] and you have the most magical setting for an experience never to be fogotten. Although you cannot see the orchestra, [no visual pit], they appear with instruments in the curtain call, they produce a perfect sound. Then the main cast run around the sloping stage, dropping, leaping, collapsing in dramatic form, whilst delivering searing notes, beautiful arias and dramatic scenes, that would challenge any Hollywood blockbuster. This performance is testimony that AI will never replace the ensemble of human excellence that created this magnificent performance. Each note is a decision of genius. Andrew Lloyd-Webber [Baron Lloyd-Webber] must be regarded as the eminent composer of our era. He has the ability to encapture every emotion, movement, sensitivity through his music. From the opening ridicule of overly acrobatic operatics, the pomp and elaborate dress of a Mozart-esque opera - within an opera, to the thumping sinister yet deadly gravitas of our tortured beast [the Opera Ghost] we are gripping our seats, then holding back tears, as Christine Daae negotiates between her love of music, her troubled memory of her departed father's promise [to return as the Angel of Music], her revulsion and sympathy for the deformed genius that it the Phantom, and her natural love for Viscount Raoul de Cagny. This is a must on the calander for Sydney. Worthy of flying around the globe to witness. 10/10.

An absolutely unforgettable night of theatre I cannot remember the last time a production left me so completely breathless. From the moment the overture swelled and the iconic chandelier blazed to life, the Handra Phantom of the Opera held me in its grip and refused to let go until the very final note. The performances are extraordinary across the board. The lead cast brings genuine emotional depth to roles that could easily tip into melodrama — instead, every scene feels raw and real. The chemistry between the principal characters is electric, and the vocals are nothing short of stunning. There were moments in Act Two where I could feel the whole audience holding its breath together. The set and costume design deserve their own standing ovation. The production is visually sumptuous — lavish without ever feeling overdone. Every detail, from the candlelit catacombs to the sweeping masquerade sequence, is crafted with obvious care and artistry. The lighting design in particular is some of the best I have seen on any stage. Whether you are a longtime fan of Phantom or coming to it for the very first time, this production is an absolute must-see. It reminded me why live theatre is irreplaceable. I left the theatre humming, smiling, and already wondering when I can come back.

The atmosphere was amazing, it was an incredible backdrop for such a beautiful performance. Obviously being outside gave it opportunity for certain elements that you can't get in a theatre like the use of cranes in the pyrotechnics. I was sitting in the very back row, and it was funny because when the Phantom entered, the music clearly started with the bats in the trees and so in my vision the Phantom appeared and as he did like 20 bats began to fly towards the stage and it looked insane. One of my favourite moments in the entire musical is 'masquerade' and how that was done for this performance was unbelievable. The use of fireworks to help punctuate the pinnacle of that song, the silhouette of the Phantom as he flew through the air and across the harbour was moving and mesmerising. My one bit of advice it probably wouldn't go straight to let tick holders know that if they're in the back few rows maybe bring a poncho or rain jacket because I did get covered in bat poop but overall the night was amazing.

Seeing The Phantom of the Opera performed at Mrs Macquarie's Chair felt unforgettable because everything aligned in a way you rarely experience. The setting itself was breathtaking—the stage framed by the harbour, with the sails of the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge glowing in the background. As the sun set and the sky deepened into night, it created a natural transition that perfectly matched the mood of the performance. The music carried effortlessly across the open air, giving familiar songs a fresh, almost cinematic quality. There’s something powerful about hearing live vocals under the stars—the emotion feels bigger, more immersive, and more raw. What truly made it special was the atmosphere. Being surrounded by a crowd all sharing that same sense of awe, in such an iconic location, turned it into more than just a show—it felt like a moment. One of those rare experiences where the place, the performance, and the feeling all come together and stay with you long after it’s over.

A big wow Great stage Set up in front of the harbour, an eye candy with the lights and clever change of stage design during the performance. I loved the massive stairs and the stram where the actors came with the boat. The performance just gave me beautiful excitement, loved the voices and the acting. Also beautiful costumes, especially from the ballet dancers. Everything was well organised. Except for the fact, that lots of people wanted to come through the Botanical gardens which was closed during night time. So the all had quite a bit of stress having to walk their way around it to the actual entrance. I wonder if this could be marked more specifically.

The overall performance was amazing. Looking out over the harbour to the opera house & iconic bridge was a wonderful backdrop. Each scene had its own special focus. One unforgettable number was the colourful picture of the whole cast on the spiral staircase singing at the masquarade ball. Of course the talented performances of all lead singers, together with the fire lined boat ride around the mote made the whole crafted set an amazing fete! Congratulations must be extended to all involved, not just the performers on stage but the designers and crew who put the whole Phantom experience together for thousands of patrons' pleasure.

The performance was truly amazing including the production from the surround sound, fireworks and the theatrics. I would beware with a few things being that it was very difficult for us to get there as the route option on Google wasn't actually accessible and so many others were also lost. Arrived and the bathroom outside did not have toilet paper, and then there are mosquitos, and they ran out of water. I did like how they had a long intermission for photos and food selection seemed abundant even though I didn't try any. I was truly wowed by the show.

I thought the whole thing was a gimmick, but it turned out to be far more magical and well executed. Warm halogen lights!! Affordable wine and I can drink at my seats!!! What made it even better, the whole show did not feel rush at all. Compare to the Miss Saigon I saw two years+ years ago at the opera house, this was very well paced. We actually had room to breathe between the numbers. Two things that could better: a wider exclusion zone so we don't get disturbed by the doof doof party boats. And a heavier hit for the chandelier :((

On a picture-perfect Sydney evening, Phantom of the Opera absolutely delivered. The staging was nothing short of spectacular—dramatic, immersive, and at times truly jaw-dropping. The vocals were powerful and polished, the dancing elegant, and the costumes simply stunning. We treated ourselves to the Platinum Club, which added a nice touch—tasty bites, a few drinks, and, best of all, seamless access during interval. No long queues, no waiting around… just more time to soak up the magic (and avoid the usual dash to the loos!).

It was spectacular, and the entire experience is unforgettable because of the outdoor setting. I first saw the play 35 years ago and this felt like an entirely new experience due to the harbor as the backdrop., which was integral to the entire production. The way the chandelier was held up and dropped from a crane, the live fireworks during the masquerade ball, not to mention the iconic scene of traversing the Paris underground lair of the Phantom- all done in an unforgettable way. BRAVO!!! and a MUST SEE!!!
