National Museum of Ancient Art
The National Museum of Ancient Art displays a diverse collection of artworks and cultural artifacts, showcasing around 40,000 items. It is a must-see for anybody interested in Portuguese art from the Middle Ages to the beginning of the 19th century, making it one of the country's best museums.
Find works by Portuguese masters like Nuno Gonçalves and Vasco Fernandes, as well as Flemish paintings by Hieronymus Bosch and Peter Paul Rubens. Watch out for prints and drawings from the likes of Albrecht Dürer and Rembrandt. Decorative arts including pottery, textiles, and metalwork are also on display. Make sure not to miss the 15th-century St. Vincent Panels and the extraordinary solid gold Cross of Dom Sancho I during your visit.
