I brought my family to my two favorite chateaux in France from when I went there as a college student. They didn't disappoint. Each was unique and formidable in their own way. The tickets were easy to book and flexible - not committing us to a time to enter either chateau. The places to eat, especially on Chambord grounds, were perfect. Hope to visit again!!

Visited Chenonceau and Chambord in late November. No crowds and both being beautifully decorated for Christmas. Appreciated being able to tour at own pace and not having to follow a prescribed path.

Pas trop de monde a cette période. Chateau superbe et parking accessoble (payant 6 euro ) un peu éloigné mais raisonnablement. 2 aires abritees pour pique niquer. Bref une bonne visite.

Getting started

Arrive at the Chambord Castle and head straight to the entrance after security checks. Your ticket skips the long ticket office lines but note that standard security screenings still apply. Have your ID ready for validation, then pick up a free visitor’s guide or watch a 20-minute film to set the scene for your visit.

Chambord is the Loire Valley’s largest chateau, built by François I as a symbol of power and heavily inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s vision.

The ground floor is wheelchair-accessible; the upper floors have elevators.

Guide dogs are allowed through the entire estate.

There is low connectivity within the castle; download your tickets in advance.

Pets are not allowed inside the castle, gardens, and stables; they are in the park, on a leash.

Since this is a historic site, certain rooms are exceptionally closed to visitors.

Autumns and winters are exceptionally cold inside the castle. Plan accordingly.

Entrance to the castle and gardens is free for:

Children under 18 years old with family accompanied by an adult on an individual visit (on presentation of proof of identity).

European Union nationals under 26 years of age on an individual visit (on presentation of an identity document and a European Union residence permit)

For organized groups, admission is free from November to February for 6-17 year olds and 18-25 year olds from the European Union. From March to October, a reservation fee of €3 per person applies for these two categories.
