I love being able to move about discreetly through a tourist sight at my own pace without having to join a group to learn a bit about the rich history of the place. The descriptions were long enough to enrich our travel experience without overwhelming us with too many facts and figures. We both felt that the descriptions were well-balanced and informative, giving enough detail to encourage further exploration in the areas that most interested us. Well done on your service, and thank you for adding a fun twist to city touring and for offering a way to visit a tourist site that is far-less intrusive for the locals as well.

Easy to book, smooth entry, and seamless transition to the actual Castle and Ramparts! The Castle itself is really nice. We opted for the extra audio tour after we arrvied which was worth the 4 euro pp - at least in the Castle section. Feel free to hop off of the Ramparts midway through if needed, especially if you are taking the tour during lunch time. Places in the city fill up fast and are only (usually) open from 12-2pm!

Nos gusto mucho la experiencia. El castillo es una pasada junto su muralla y estado de conservación donde se aprecia la inversión local por su mantenimiento. Somos españoles y lo unico que tenéis que tener en cuenta es, la temperatura y el presupuesto.

Booking worked out. The link to start the activity does not match the reality, the entrance to the castle is about 50 m away around the corner. Our ticket had a fixed time for entering, we showed up 30 minutes earlier, this was no problem. The tour is nice, the castle and the interior is in good shape, the walk around the town on the wall is amazing. All in all a must, if you are around Carcassone.

Einlass war mit dem auf Termin bestellten Tickets problemlos. Wahrscheinlich war ein Tag vor dem kostenlosen Eintritt am Tag des Denkmals weniger los als normal. Wir könnten den Besuch genießen. Absolut empfehlenswert: Der Audioguide. Toll aufgemacht mit Infos und Jokes, aber informativ, lehrreich und angemessen kurz gehalten.

La experiencia con headout fue muy buena. La web del castillo no vendía entradas a la hora que queríamos y Headout sí. Pero en el castillo no pudimos visitar las murallas porque en ningún sitio avisaban de que a las 18:00 empezaban a cerrarla por trozos y cuando habíamos visto solo un tercio no nos dejaron continuar.

Nos encantó la experiencia. Pasear por las murallas al atardecer fue mágico, y el castillo está muy bien conservado. Es una visita obligatoria si estás en la zona. Comprar las entradas por Headout hizo todo muy fácil.

What to bring

Bring a valid passport or photo ID card for entry and age verification.

What’s not allowed

Scooters, bicycles, helmets, non-folding strollers, and large luggage are not permitted inside the Château Comtal or on the ramparts.

Animals are not allowed inside the monument.

Accessibility

The monument is accessible to people with limited mobility in the Barbican and main courtyard only.

Other areas, including the ramparts, are not fully accessible.

Expect to climb a lot of stairs with the Bishop's tower having 230+ steps.

Additional information

The monument is open daily from 10am to 6:15pm, with last access at 5:45pm. It is closed on January 1, May 1, and December 25. The ramparts are closed on July 14 due to fireworks.

Entry is free for visitors under 18 and EU citizens under 26 with valid ID; a timeslot must be pre-booked on the Carcassone website.

Free entrance is available on the first Sunday of January, February, March, November, and December, and during European Heritage Days (3rd weekend of September).

Certain areas may be closed due to weather conditions; check availability before your visit.
