A standard day visit is entirely self-guided, taking about 1.5 to 2 hours to explore at your own pace. • The Journey Begins: You start in the freshwater river systems of Far North Queensland, walking past massive tanks filled with barramundi, rare freshwater whiprays, and prehistoric-looking "River Monsters." • The Rainforest & Mangroves: Moving forward, the climate shifts into the humid world of the Wet Tropics. Here, you will encounter deadly stonefish, pythons, emerald tree monitors, and the critically endangered peppermint stick insects. • The Deep Ocean: The experience culminates in the marine zones. You will walk through a spectacular 20-metre underwater tunnel as hammerhead sharks, massive stingrays, and guitarfish glide right over your head.

Visited for an after dusk tour of the aquarium from 6pm with dinner afterwards at Squire's Loft last night. Jordan took the group through for an interesting, interesting and more private tour and view of all the different eco and aquatic systems. Certainly much better without the crowds and able to locate n see all the creatures without being rushed.

Took our Granddaughter while on holiday (7.5 years) and all of us enjoyed it. Very absorbing talks on the various exhibits and informative staff compliment the great displays. This was a repeat visit after our first last year and will go again next time we are in Cairns.

Our family loves marine life, and Cairns Aquarium is easily one of the best aquariums we've ever visited. We really enjoyed the shark talk, interactive touch tank and the huge variety of amazing sea life. The displays were well documented and made the whole experience even more interesting. It was very busy when we arrived, so I'd definitely recommend booking online and getting there as early as possible to enjoy the full day. We absolutely loved it and can't wait to return to Cairns for the twilight tour!

Cairns Aquarium Night Tour was exceptional in every way. It was informative, timed to maintain attention and yet relaxed enough for questions and audience experience. Travelling with a 10 year old, I found her bouncing to each exhibit and the next day eagerly repeating knowledge gained the night before. Dinner consisted of a very well cooked and presented meal and the staff were attentive and very obliging. All in all this was a highlight of our Cairns trip.

It was wonderful to see all the different marine animals up close, but the best part was how informative it was. I learnt a lot about the ecosystem around Cairns and how interconnected it all is. Well worth a visit.

Getting started

Head to the main entrance and show your mobile or printed ticket. Staff will scan your ticket and provide the day’s presentation schedule. Lockers are available for a small fee. The aquarium is fully accessible, with ramps, elevators, and facilities for strollers and wheelchairs.

This is the only aquarium in the world exclusively dedicated to the species and habitats of tropical North Queensland.
