Ci sono quei giorni a Roma che, anche se la visiti da una vita, ti prendono bene come la prima volta. Settimana scorsa con amici siamo andati all’Altare della Patria. L'idea iniziale era il classico "scendiamo per un caffè e poi si vede", ma finire sul tetto di Roma è tutta un'altra storia. Arrivi in cima e la vista ti schiaffa in faccia la storia, ma in modo epico. C’è quel misto di marmo bianco accecante, il cielo di Roma che sembra sempre più blu che altrove. Una volta arrivati alla terrazza panoramica, il silenzio (o quasi) cala da solo. Non sto a fare la lezione di storia, ma vedere il Colosseo da una parte, i Fori Imperiali sotto i piedi e poi girare lo sguardo verso i tetti di Prati o San Pietro… ti fa sentire piccolo piccolo, ma in un modo positivo. È il posto dove capisci davvero perché questa città è definita "eterna". C’è quell’atmosfera che ti spinge a staccare un secondo dal telefono. Ci siamo seduti un attimo in un angolo, abbiamo guardato il viavai delle auto che sembravano formiche giù in piazza e abbiamo parlato di tutto e niente. È il tipo di posto che ti fa apprezzare la bellezza senza sforzo, senza dover pagare un biglietto stratosferico o fare file chilometriche al chiuso

I didn’t mean to give five stars, but I absolutely do not recommend this excursion, nor buying the tickets on this website. We paid €30 per person, but the tickets didn’t work. We had to call customer support, which made us waste time while waiting for them to email us the valid tickets. On top of that, since we are students, the on-site price would have been €5, yet we paid €30. For information, the regular adult price is €18 (with everything included, of course). That said, the monument itself is absolutely beautiful.

Esperienza indimenticabile con la mia fidanzata. Il panorama che si vede dalla terrazza raggiungibile con l'ascensore di vetro è semplicemente mozzafiato. Meraviglioso anche il giardino segreto di Palazzo Venezia.

This was one of the few places that we did not have to queue to enter. We enjoyed the magnificent views from the roof and the cafe allowed a welcome break as well.

The building itself was outstanding, breathtaking. However, the glass elevator and the terrace was not that amusing. Definitely not worth paying to get up there, better places and rooftops in Rome to spend money on. It was fine, but definitely not ticket worthy. The building itself from the outside was absolutely beautiful.

How it works: Show your ticket at the Vittoriano Complex at your selected time, ride the glass elevator to the rooftop, then visit the Museum of the Risorgimento and Palazzo Venezia at your own pace.

Good to know: The terraces stay relatively uncrowded even at peak hours. The northern terrace gives the clearest sightline over the Roman Forum.
