Albertina was the third museum on our marathon day, and I honestly thought nothing could surprise me anymore. But the moment we stepped into the impressionist gallery, the world seemed to pause. Colors, light, and brushstrokes came alive, and suddenly even the busiest day felt magical. 10/10 — this museum is pure joy and a breath of fresh air for anyone who loves art.

I loved all the incredible descriptions and the wonderful selection of pieces. While there are various museums in Vienna, the gothic modern exhibit was incredibly unique and one that shouldn't be missed. Looking forward to returning in the future when I return.

I was amazed by the impressive collection of masterpieces at the Albertina Museum in Vienna. However, the exhibition devoted to paper fascinated me the most – it was truly unique, engaging, and deeply inspiring.

  • Skip the hassle and wander through centuries of art, from Renaissance drawings to modern masterpieces, inside Vienna’s Albertina Museum.

    Getting started

The Albertina Museum sits right in the heart of Vienna, just behind the State Opera House and a short stroll from Stephansplatz. The main entrance is through the Albertinaplatz; you’ll recognize it instantly by the grand statue of Archduke Albrecht on horseback.

Once inside, you’ll pass through a brief security check before entering the lobby. If you’ve booked an audio guide, simply collect it at the counter near the main ticket desk.

    Art in a royal setting

Your visit begins in the opulent Habsburg State Rooms, where crystal chandeliers, silk wall coverings, and gilded mirrors reflect the grandeur of imperial Vienna. These 21 restored rooms, once the residence of Archduke Albert and Princess Maria Christina, let you step right into 18th-century court life.

Dürer’s detail and Da Vinci’s design

Next, you’ll enter one of the most remarkable print rooms in the world, home to the Albertina’s legendary collection of master drawings. Here, Dürer’s Young Hare and Praying Hands sit beside sketches by Michelangelo, Raphael, and Leonardo da Vinci.

    Impressionist treasures

As you step into the Batliner Collection galleries, the tone shifts from royal refinement to radiant color. See Monet’s reflections, Cézanne’s bold brushstrokes, and Picasso’s evolving style, all displayed in a sequence that tells the story of European modernism.
