Our experience began with the easy to book website and got better and better. The highlight was viewing four sperm whales and amazing leaping dolphins followed by an acrobatic display from a supremely energetic humpback in a blue blue sea and the background of the glorious snowy kaikouras. Our experience was complemented by a friendly informative direct commentary not a pre recorded one. Staff were all friendly and helpful and safety was never in question. Nga mihi Whalewatch.

Emily, who was our information guide, was absolutely amazing. Her love and passion for her job really shone through the whole trip. I was lucky that it was a calm day out on the water and we were able to see both whales and dusky dolphins. It was one of the most enjoyable days I've had in a long time, and I've always been a bit frightened of open water. I felt safe and loved it 🥰

It would be a great shame to visit Kaikoura and not enjoy this splendid cruise experience. Just to see and appreciate Kaikoura's superbly dramatic setting from out at sea is delight enough. And the richness of ocean life all around is awesome to behold - fur seals, so many bird species, dolphins arcing around us, a pod of three humpbacks headed north, two awesome black sperm whale bulls recharging on the surface and plunging back down with dramatic farewell flick of their massive tail flukes. And it is a business established by and run by local Maori - a powerful example of a path forward for indigenous communities that have been and still are oppressed and marginalised in too many of their countries, including mine. Go for it! Stuart (10.30 tour 19.6.2026)

Kaikoura Whale watching was an amazing experience. Keelan our tour guide was knowledgeable and brought some vitality and humor to our trip. The other crew members were friendly and the experience was well organized. The setting and scenery are incredibly beautiful and the icing on the cake was seeing Manu the whale, such an incredibly graceful creature. Would highly recommend. Five star experience!

It was just amazing! We saw so much marine wildlife, seals, dolphins and two different whales 😍 The staff was great, they gave lots of information about the area and the animals. Also knew exactly when the whale would dive down again. Definitely worth it!

The cruise was very informative with footage of the ocean floor in real time (including water depth and boat speed) and staff were happy to answer all questions. Their knowledge on all of the the whales that are in the area is second-to-none plus all other whales, dolphins and birds that frequent the waters regularly. An enjoyable afternoon with 3 whale sightings - Tiaki and Manu (who we sighted twice). An amazing afternoon. ❤️❤️❤️🐋🐋🐋....oh, and just quietly, the view is just as stunning! 😉

  • Take a journey unlike any other to witness the ocean's most magnificent creatures in their natural habitat, with the security of an 80% refund guarantee if no whales appear during your cruise.

    Getting started

You'll then board the modern catamaran, designed specifically for whale watching with noise-minimizing engines that don't disturb the wildlife.

    • The spacious viewing decks offer 360-degree views, ensuring you don't miss a moment when whales surface.

    • The "World of the Whales" presentation provides fascinating insights into whale behavior, biology, and conservation. The onboard live commentary explains what you're seeing and educates you about marine conservation efforts.

    • Keep your camera ready for other marine wildlife often spotted during cruises, including dolphins, seals, and various seabirds.

You'll spend approximately 2 hours on the water, with the entire experience lasting 2.5 hours from departure to return.

Upon returning to shore, you'll have the opportunity to review your photos and perhaps visit the gift shop for souvenirs that support marine conservation efforts.
