Reach Ajloun Castle, also called Qal’at Ar-Rabad, a hilltop fortress begun in 1184 by Izz al-Din Usama, one of Saladin’s commanders. The castle was positioned to watch regional routes and protect the Ajloun iron-mining area. Its stepped, narrow interior makes shoes with grip a better choice than sandals.

    What our guests say

Went with my partner to Jerash and honestly – the ruins blew us away. Our driver, Khalil, was suuuper friendly and even stopped for coffee on the way (he insisted we try cardamom in it, so good). Not too busy, maybe cause it’s winter? Our guide knew crazy little facts about Roman toilets, which cracked us up. Take comfy shoes, you’ll be walking a lot! Wish we’d packed snacks but found a tiny stall selling pomegranate juice by the gate. Would go again, for real.

Solid trip. Weather started a bit drizzly but cleared up by the time we hit the main entrance. Our driver, Ahmad, kept us entertained with stories from his childhood. Jerash is HUGE – we didn’t even see everything. Felt a little rushed at the end (I guess we took too many pics), but got lots of good shots. Heads up: no ATM at the entrance, so bring cash for snacks/water.

I went solo and was nervous but the driver, Youssef, made me feel super safe the whole time. He played local music and told me about his grandma’s recipes. Jerash itself is just… MASSIVE. Wasn’t too crowded which I loved. My guide, Salim, acted out gladiator fights at the amphitheater – kinda hilarious tbh. Wish I’d worn a hat, the sun is sneaky even in Jan.

Not bad, but expected more info from the guide. He was nice just a bit quiet, maybe shy? Jerash itself is super impressive though. Some parts closed for repairs, so couldn’t see everything. The ride from Amman was smooth. Found it a bit cold in January so bring a jacket.

Family trip – 2 adults, 2 teens, everyone happy (rare!!). Car was clean, driver on time. The kids loved the chariot track and our guide let them run around pretending to race. I asked about restrooms and was relieved to find them close to the entrance (bring your own tissue, fyi). We got fresh falafel after the tour, not included but cheap and tasty. 5 stars from us!
