We wanted to visit Osaka-castle since the beginning of our trip. However we didn't have time to think of buying tickets ahead and we undervalued the queue at the entrance. We were than reluctantly , decided to queue up at the ticket lane which was quite long and demotivating. Moreover, it was quote a cold morning and we we're about to gives up. We saw, then, the indication of web based ticket and we decided to give it a chance by looking at the castle website. And then we made our tickets with readout in 1min. Received QR code and changed queue immediately. We were in a minute later ready to queue for the elevator and start our day enjoying our time in osaka to do everything we had been schedule already. Osaka Castle was awesome. After reading about the history and stories, Osaka Castle climbed to the top of my list of best castles in Japan. Purchasing the ticket online took only a few minutes and I got to skip the line right outside. The cost was the same online vs paying at the ticket counter. I think it's worth it, especially if you like history, culture, and architecture.

Skipping the long queue was definitely worth it - though the castle itself was disappointing. The internal displays are only focused on a single battle and omit so many other interesting eras. It is worth the stair climb for the view of Osaka though, and the incidental exercise is a happy bonus

Taking inspiration from the Taisho period, this attraction is an important historical heritage site, built in Ancient Japan. Explore Osaka Castle’s historical grounds at your own time and pace. This experience is one that shouldn’t be missed while in Osaka. In 1583, Hideyoshi Toyotomi began trying to build the Osaka Castle on the site of Ishiyama Hongaji, which was suitable to inhabit a ruler.

After the death of Hideyoshi’s death, the regime moved to the Tokugawa family and the Osaka Castle fell in 1615 at Osaka Natsunokin. This heritage site was then rebuilt under the order of the second Shogun Hidetada Tokugawa, which took around 10 years. This site played a major role as the base of the Western government for the Shogun. Featuring a spectacular light-up and Japanese historical treasures, this Osaka Castle illumination displays over 3 million colorful LED lights on a 300cm long picture scroll. Don’t miss this 430-year-old edifice in Osaka.

What's not allowed

Large luggage, sharp metals, and food and drinks are not permitted in the castle. Only water is allowed on the premises.

Flash photography is not allowed in certain areas of the castle.

Accessibility

Free admission will be given to visitors with disability certificates. One companion can also be admitted for free.

The castle is wheelchair and stroller accessible. However, if the castle gets too crowded on a certain day, strollers will not be allowed.

Additional information

Guests can deposit their belongings at the entrance ticket counter at a fee of JPY100 per piece. Available from 9am to 4:30pm only (last call for pick up at 5pm).
