Everything!!! From boarding @ the V&A , the beautiful sightseeing we experienced as we headed out to Franschoek! Ohhh Franschoek, what a beauty 👌👌The hospitality we recieved from all wine farms, the tram operator! What a time we had💃🏻 10/10 minus nothing! What a wooooooow🙌

This well organized experience runs like clockwork with friendly and fun staff. Every stop on the Franschhoek Wine Tram has beautiful food and wine. I believe you can do this trip a few times and always have a different experience. I would highly recommend this to everyone. It made me incredibly proud to be a South African!

We had SUCH a blast on the wine tram! Went with my sister and honestly, the whole day felt like a movie. We started early (def recommend that, it gets busy by noon), and hopped on the green line. Our fave stop was Rickety Bridge – the cheese platter was massive, and the view...wow. Only weird bit: there was a group that got a lil too loud but the staff handled it super chill. If you love wine and pretty places, you’ll LOVE this. Bring sunscreen, we totally forgot and now my nose is pink.

Fabulous views, super chill staff, and so many wine choices! We were a group of 4 friends and wanted to do something different than just city stuff. Best decision ever. The only downside—lines to get on the tram at first stop were long, but after that it all flowed pretty well. Would 100% go again.

I went solo and it was a fun way to meet people! Some of the vineyards are kinda packed but staff keep things moving. Tram itself is a bit bumpy so hang on to your glass lol. Would’ve liked more time at each estate but overall, def worth the price. Weather was perfect, sunny but not toooo hot.

Came with my partner, we booked the purple line. Every place had friendly staff and the wine portions are generous. The tram is quirky and makes for good pics, but you can’t take pics inside one of the estates (forgot which, sorry!). My partner doesn’t even love wine but still had a great day.

Franschhoek wine tram

Travel comfortably from Cape Town to Franschhoek for the hop-on, hop-off Wine Tram and bus tour. Choose from four routes to explore different wine estates in the valley. Enjoy hourly transportation, hopping off at any estate to experience wine tasting and the exquisite scenery.

Schedule

Coach transfer: 8:15am from V&A Waterfront

Hop-on Hop-off departure: Franschoek terminal/Groot Drakenstein terminal, depending on route chosen (Blue, Pink, Red or Navy Line)

Frequency: Every 60 minutes

Duration: 9 hours

You can join the tour at any stop and hop on and off for the duration of your ticket.

Additional information

Depending on your chosen booking date, you will join a different tram line.

The final departure point is the V&A Waterfront Tour office. Other pick-up points might be available depending on feasibility.

This is a hop-on hop-off tour, not a guided tour.

The activities on the Red line require pre-booking directly with the estates. Check the route map for more information.

Ongoing roadworks in the Franschhoek, Simondium, and Klapmuts areas are causing intermittent traffic delays. To ensure a seamless experience and minimize wait times, the operator may temporarily adjust affected routes and lines as needed.

All five lines (Blue, Red, Pink, Navy, and Orange) are currently available for booking. The Red Line is temporarily operating with bus transfers between estates in place of the tram; all stops remain accessible. Note that Franschhoek Cellar (Blue, Red, and Pink lines) is closed June 8–12, 2026.
