This is a great tour because it gives you three different experiences of the crypts of Rome. The transfers between the sites was perfect as you also get to see the Appian Way and Aurelian Walls

Heather was incredible! She shared so much knowledge in a humorous, memorable way. The visit to the church at the conclusion of the tour was an unexpected highlight. A must do.

Step into the shadows of ancient Rome with this expertly guided Crypts, Catacombs & Roman Undergrounds Tour. Experience centuries of history, art, and faith come alive as you uncover the city’s most hidden and haunting sites — without worrying about navigating on your own.

Getting started

Meet your expert guide at your central starting point for this underground adventure. After check-in, board a comfortable, air-conditioned coach for your journey into the depths of Rome. Please arrive 15 minutes before departure and keep your voucher handy for validation.

What to expect

Capuchin Crypt and Museum

Begin at the haunting yet beautiful Capuchin Crypt, home to Caravaggio’s St. Francis in Meditation. Walk through its museum, which traces the humble life of the Capuchin friars, before entering the “Bone Chapel,” where the remains of over 4,000 monks form ornate, symbolic displays.

Christian Catacombs

Next, venture deep beneath the city into the Christian Catacombs, a labyrinth of tunnels dating back nearly 2,000 years. Follow your guide through narrow passageways filled with frescoes, burial niches, and stories of faith and resilience from Rome’s earliest Christians.

Wrapping up

Your journey concludes back near central Rome, perfectly placed for onward exploration of the city's popular landmarks.

What to bring

A light jacket — temperatures in the catacombs are cool year-round.

Modest clothing covering shoulders and knees, as visits include religious sites.

What’s not allowed

Photography or videography inside the catacombs and crypts.

Large bags or bulky items that may obstruct narrow passageways.

Accessibility

The tour involves uneven terrain, steep stairs, and confined tunnels.

Unfortunately, it is not wheelchair-accessible and not advised for visitors with mobility issues.

Additional information

Arrive at the meeting point at least 15 minutes before departure.

Your voucher will be emailed to you shortly.

Display the voucher on your mobile phone with a valid photo ID at the starting point.

Please check your final voucher for the starting point details & specific instructions.
