We went on the English speaking tour and had Vaso as our guide. She was extremely knowledgeable about the monasteries the local area and geology which was an added bonus. Inside the chapels, is the most beautiful artwork and intricate carvings I have ever seen. For me, my favourite places were St Barbara and St Stephan. Everywhere you look there is so much history and so much work that has gone into building these sanctuaries. I 100% recommend this tour. Is it a long day? Yes it is. Is it worth it? 1000% yes. Book the tour, you will not be disappointed.

Overall, this tour offers excellent value for money! I highly recommend choosing the option with lunch included. The only downside is that on the way back, the bus stops at a rest area where you have no other dining options, and the food there is quite expensive. If you decide not to eat there, you’ll arrive back in Athens after 9:00 PM. Other than that, everything was great. The tour guide was excellent, and the driver was very professional. Most of the stops gave us enough time to explore, although I felt the last photo stop could have been a little longer.

Firstly, Meteora is magical. Very breathtaking views and totally worth it. This is not a place to be missed in Greece and in Europe. The trip was well organized from the bus trip, the lunch and the guides. Great explanation about meteora and good organization skills with enough time for photos and monastery visits. Only disclaimer (not part of the package but good to mention) is that dinner is self paid and the servers were forcing people add ons like salads and juice almost implying it's free so be cautious on your way back to select only what you would like to eat.

Our full-day tour to Meteora was truly one of the highlights of our trip to Greece. From start to finish, everything was exceptionally well organized and thoughtfully planned, making the entire experience smooth and enjoyable. The journey itself was comfortable, and the scenery along the way was beautiful. But nothing compares to arriving at Meteora — the views are absolutely breathtaking. Seeing the monasteries perched on top of those massive rock formations is something you really have to experience in person. A special thank you to our guide, who made the day even more memorable. They were knowledgeable, friendly, and genuinely passionate about sharing the history and stories behind Meteora. The audio explanations added so much depth to what we were seeing. The lunch was also a pleasant surprise — delicious, satisfying, and well-timed, giving us a nice break to relax and enjoy local flavors. Overall, everything about this tour was excellent: the organization, the guide, the food, and of course the incredible destination itself. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Greece. It’s absolutely worth it!

Estamos (mi pareja y yo) embelesado c el tour a Meteora. No estábamos tan informados acerca de la belleza de los paisajes asi q de por sí la sorpresa fue más q grata. Pero el encuentro con la imponenecia de la topografía de Meteora más las increíbles construcciones de los monesterios nos dejó sencillamente perplejos. Hay q sumarle por supuesto q gran parte del exito fue gracias a Rola, la guia. Es la excelente combinación entre el Saber y el saber tansmitirlo. Y Rola lo tiene todo. Y también mucha gracia y simpatia. El tour estuvo organizado excelentemente bien. Se cumplieron exactamente los horarios. El chófer, EXCELENTE.

What to bring

Bring cash for monastery offerings (€3 to €5 per site) and any small purchases.

Wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes with a good grip. Trails and monastery steps can be uneven and steep.

Carry water and a light snack, especially during the summer months (June to August).

Don’t forget earphones and a fully charged smartphone if you plan to use the audio guide during your visit.

What's not allowed

Photography is welcome in outdoor areas, but taking pictures inside churches, or of monks and nuns, is not permitted.

Drone use is strictly forbidden unless you have special permission.

Accessibility

Most of Meteora’s sites are not wheelchair-friendly, as all monasteries involve climbing stairs or navigating inclined paths.

For visitors with limited mobility, St. Stephen’s Monastery offers the easiest access, with a level, paved path and minimal steps.

Additional information

4 pick-up points are available: Melina Mercouri Monument Plaka (at 7am), Greek Parliament (at 7:05am), Omonoia Square (at 7:15am), and Karaiskaki Square (at 7:25am).

Depending on the day, you’ll enter 2 to 4 monasteries. Each monastery has one designated closing day per week (Great Meteoron is closed Tuesdays, and Varlaam is closed Fridays), so the tour route may vary.

Monastery offerings (€3 to €5 per person) are not typically included in tour prices and must be paid in cash at the gate.

A modest dress code is strictly enforced at all monasteries. Men should wear long pants, while women must wear long skirts and cover their shoulders. Wrap skirts and shawls are available at the entrance if needed.

Tours use local minibuses or shuttle vans for transportation between stops. Roads can be winding, but distances are short.

Toilets are available at larger monasteries like Great Meteoron, Varlaam, and St. Stephen’s. A small tip is often expected when using them.
